Songs in a Key of Aphasia

My name is Graham Hall and my brain attack happened in 2014. Although there are no physical disabilities, my “lesion on the region” caused aphasia and musical anhedonia, a loss of feeling or emotion normally evoked by music. But my perception of music was unimpaired, so now I work on music preparation, (orchestration, arranging etc) which of course helps my brain betterment. Before the stroke happened I did, from time to time, use parody to imitate, comment on, and/or mock the situation in my musical life eg “Oh I do like to be behind the woodwind” So I’ve used that “skill” to describe my new life about aphasia - the music is composed by Sondheim/Carmichael/Redding etc but I use” contrafactum” lyrics “the substitution of one text for another without substantial change to the music”

These songs about living with aphasia, you can hear/read them on The Sound of Aphasia | Graham Hall. Aphasia and Mind | Graham Hall

All PayPal monies given on my “bandcamp” website are for SayAphasia, a charity that knows first-hand the confusion, frustration and change that a stroke can have on a person and their family.

With aphasian thanks
Graham
