@Caz3 I don’t get seizures but i believe they are fairly common after a stroke and they don’t always happen straight after. I can’t begin to imagine how terrifying they myst be. Have you got meds to help control them?

Hope they settle for you. Xx

@adsmoore17 Hi & welcome to the forum. I hope you are getting on ok after your stroke & it’s good to hear your meds seem to be helping with the seizures. I have my fingers crossed that remains the case.

Best wishes

Thanks :+1: , I can’t get meds as my doctor won’t prescribe until I’ve seen the neurologist which I did a month ago, they have lost my notes argghh :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: will be back on the phone again tomorrow

Oh thats infuriating. I’ve been to appointments where they haven’t had my notes & that is bad enough as you’re having to repeat yourself all the time & they can’t see whats already been tried.

In this day and age you’d think they would be on the computer.

Hope your neurologist appointment goes well.

Hello Caz, I’ve had seizures too. After 12 weeks I had them down my effected side. I went to A&E, like adsmoore17, blood test and CT scan, nothing was evident. I was referred back to my original stroke doctor. He told me too, it was the scar tissue where my bleed had been. He prescribed me anti-epileptic tablets and since no bother. The downside is I can’t drive for a year.
Keep on at the neurologist and doc. It is horrible when it happens. I too got awoken with one. It lasted about 1-2 minutes. Fortunately, my wife calmed me down and got me breathing steadily so it subsided.

Hi, yes. My seizures started a month after my first stoke 2 years ago and I have been on meds ever since as I’ve had several. My meds have been increased several times since then, but as of May last year I’ve not had a single one. I’ve yet to be told if I will be on meds forever or if one day the consultant will wean me off them.

Good luck & take care

Hey guys. I had a stroke just a month ago, out of nowhere. After getting home, I thought I was okay, but then I had a seizure in my sleep. It freaked me out. Had another one a couple of months later, but both were quick and didn’t happen while I was standing. My doctors said it was common after a stroke due to scar tissue in the brain, so they put me on meds, but I wasn’t happy with how they made me feel.

I decided to try cannabis, and honestly, it really helped. The seizures slowed down, and I felt better overall. If you’re struggling with seizures too, check out Releaf—they specialize in medical cannabis here in the UK. It worked for me, and it might help you too.

I had an ICH stroke in April last year affecting my right arm and leg, and I lost speech. I recovered from these fairly quickly.

Then in December I had a first seizure lasting 5 minutes. I had been just about to start the washing up when I realised both my arms and legs were shaking. After that I don’t remember anything. I bit my tongue in three places and banged my head on a cupboard door, cracking it in the process.

I woke to find my wife calling an ambulance. I was admitted to hospital where a consultant in A&E confirmed it was a seizure but there was no further damage in the area of my stroke. It was not diagnosed as epilepsy as it was only my first seizure. I was bruised and felt like I had been beaten up!

Two weeks later I had a phone appointment with a neurology consultant. He felt I was very likely to have another seizure. He put me on a starting dose of 25 mg of lamotrigine, increasing by 25 mg every fortnight until I am now on 100 mg twice a day.

Since the seizure my stroke symptoms have returned and are getting worse. My right leg is now wobbly and I have nearly fallen over several times.

The biggest problem is my speech, which had nearly recovered completely. Now I find I have gaps up to 30 s, while I am trying to find the words. Even when I do find something to say it is often not what I meant, but I just can’t find the real thing I wanted to say.

When I was told I was not allowed to drive for a year, I voluntarily surrendered my licence to DVLA. Their website recommends this as it takes longer to get it back if you don’t surrender voluntarily.

I decided to sell my car as the insurance and tax were due and the garage advised the timing belt would need changing at the next service. This would cost £1800 on top of the normal service and MOT.
