It seems I have sciatica - I have an irritated or compressed sciatic nerve and I am not looking forward to the next few weeks or months which is how long it may take to get better according to the NHS website
If anyone has experienced this and has any tips, I should be pleased to hear from you.
In the meantime, I shall carry on as normal as this is the advice given on the NHS website. Of course there are exercises that I can do and I will do those too.
Strictly speaking this is not stroke related, however, I attribute it to bad practices during carer activities in particular moving and handling of a heavily immobile body
I have had pain that I attributed to sciatica for the past couple of months. It transpired, after a trip to the Physio, that it was not sciatica at all, but weakness in the smaller glute muscles. I have now been told to do 50 ‘zero gravity’ clams every other day in order to reactivate them. Why this has happened after 11 years, I have no idea, but the pain every morning has been excruciating, so you have my sympathy!
Oh I feel for you. I have never had sciatica but hubby did & he was in severe agony. He was prescribed some diazepam I think. He took one then refused to take any more. If I recall he rested for a couple of days then hot back to as near normal as he could. It may be worth getting a formal diagnosis just to be sure.
Thanks everyone; Minnie, Val, Trace and Ann for your feedback.
It will eventually go and it my come back as it seems it is also something that you are at increased risk of as you get older. Still there is much better information out there and hopefully some preventative exercises will prevent a recurrence, though it is annoying to have got caught out like this - I have a feeling I caused it by overstretching with one of my exercises
I am getting used to it and the pain is not constant - only when I accidentally trigger the compression or whatever it is.
Hi Trace - The problem with the modern world with it’s social media and instant access is knowing who you can trust.
I watched this video and he is saying exactly the opposite of what another guy is saying in his video i.e. this one says have the sciatica leg away from door/wall and the other guy says have the sciatica leg next to the wall. They both then tell you to lean into the wall!!!
However, to me, it would make sense to have the sciatica leg away from the door/ wall so that you get that good stretch when you lean into the wall. That’s how I visualise it, anyway🤷♀️
Too much info available these days, especially with so much of it conflicting. On the other hand, we can find something we think may work, and keep researching it to see what others are saying about it. But then our days become hours and hours of searching and scrolling and we end up either confused or none the wiser😆 and find another morning or afternoon has been wasted. Frustrating being in pain and frustrating trying to find ways to get out of it.
Hope you can find something to help😊
Hi Trace - I was just making an observation about conflicting information. Many of these posts are attempts to earn money if I am not mistaken. With AI, there is now even more rubbish and it is increasingly becoming important to be alert and vigilant
Wrt the sciatica, I am trying various things including the tried and tested hydrotherapy - it’s my go to when I have back pain or things like that. I am lucky I have kept my bath and so I can still fill it up and sit in it when needed
I had it once for five months and it was miserable and so painful. Acupuncture sorted it for me after a few sessions. Now if I get a hint of it I nip back and have a session.
