I’m a husband of a stroke patient, my wife does not want to write about her experiences yet so I joined to ask for help and advice; as we require it.
We were very lucky and my wife has completely recovered from her episodes, which is what we call them. Back in December she had 2 strokes in quick succession the second landed her in hospital. But now 6 months on we have just returned from our 1st foreign holiday.
She was passed off by our local stroke clinic, and we have a follow up appointment in a few months, but in the meantime time I wish to treat her to a spa weekend. But all the information I read says, post stroke patients should not go in steam rooms and saunas
I have heard that too but I think the best thing to do is ask the GP. I imagine it is to do with them potentially raising your heart rate & BP which is a stroke risk factor. If you do go for it then short sessions (5-10 mins) would probably be best.
Not sure if this is fully correct for every stroke recovery after as I use one every week and have had no issues since, I think they use this as a precaution for everyone and I’ve also worked at a gym/spa with a sauna/steam room since and had to tell every customer this before entering when they signed up. but we’re all different x
hi Tony, this is all about the risks that it brings to high blood pressure folks. sweating is actually very good for you of course. So what I suggest is monitor blood pressure and try for a minute, reset, retry with caution and apply common sense and be cautious about the whole thing. it would be useful to know if she’s on blood thinner etcetera. Good luck. PS if you’re out in the sun and you sweat normally as long as you hydrate… Institute of medicine recommend 3.7 litres a day of water! ciao, Roland
