Recovery the time lapse of returning to pre stroke fitness

I always found it strange that nobody had written down a journal of there returning to fitness after the stroke.
No flicking a switch no sudden operation of flaccid limbs or static knee joints.
So here is a thing if you keep moving as best you can eat well exercise and over many years you may see impersevable improvements so slightly you almost mis them and in a span of 8 to 10 years you may have a lot of the old body back, no guarantee but you might

I think it is one of those things that can’t be written down as it is so different for everyone. But as you say if you keep working at it there will be some improvements. Some not really noticeable at the time as they are so small but one day those small improvements become something bigger.

Keep going Mark. You really are improving.

Thanks I just wanted there to be something people who come after me can read after searching and get their heads Arun the time spans. Most medical people trott out the if it hs returned in six months forgot it which we all know is utter tosh!!

For all those who suffer stroke related pain in either affected sides note that until the pain is gone you cannot walk properly and with confidence

It’s all relative I think. The brain doesn’t have an expiry date so it takes effort and repeat and not giving up as part of it. It’s a very encouraging post. And progress no matter how small is progress

Thanks Sue the very fact I can craft a message for the forum and reply proves my cognitive skills are not diminished sometimes a few typos but generally speaking it’s good I got my swallowing back after a few weeks thankfully and was up on my left leg in days despite the severe stroke. For that I am thankful. All strokes are unique so not trying to generalise however if you show determination and strong will it’s amazing what can be achieved.
I’m off on holiday for the second time since the event so most grateful and positive.

I haven’t written a diary as such but my instagram documents my journey from stroke back to fitness. I hope someone might find it inspiring and it might help them stay strong in their journey.

I did keep a journal and found that most of my function was back around the 4/5 year mark. Although my left side is not perfect as pre-stroke. Also, I still tire very easily and have not got back my pep or energy that I had prestroke after 7 years–but then I remind myself that I am 7 years older–so that’s a factor for us older stroke folks. Maybe things are just harder because I’m that much older.

You have a point there, I’m wondering if age comes into it too, what do you think

Enjoy your holiday @mrfrederickson where are you going?

@Sue1958 i think age probably does play a part in some things. We all forget thatvwe are getting older & body parts start wearing out with age. I still think i am 21 but alas that is not the case

Absolutely and the race between recovery and the decay with age can offer a recovery that is marred by the aging body

I’m hoping that I get a sweet spot in the middle where I’m still young enough to utilise my recovered body before I slip into age related problems.

We’re as young as we feel in our minds Fred :winking_face_with_tongue:

I wish I was 40 something

I always have to think hard about my age. Some days I feel really old but in myind I haven’t aged at all.

It’s the ages of my grown kids that make me feel old
