Another thing to look out is optimal time of day, when you are at your best. Im 4yrs post stroke and still have my optimal period in the day. First thing in the morning I’m slow and sluggish, my speech is slurred. By the time I’ve had breakfast the brain has started engaging with the body in a more timely fashion. By about 6pm it certainly doesn’t want about doing anything more strenuous than making tea and settling down to a good book. So during my peak hours is when I do my best in anything, be it fitnesss, house work, shopping.
So pay attention to time of day as well as what you were doing when these conditions fire up. It might help your understanding if you can figure out any triggers that might be putting too heavy a demand on your healing brain.
The stroke forum is unique from most other social media. Because we are all mentally challenged. You can’t expect it to run the same, posts can and do go off topic, that’s a given. We are all hindered by damaged done to our higher brain functions, cognative processes, such as problem-solving, planning, abstract thinking, language comprehension, memory retrieval, decision-making, to name but a few😄
So don’t be surprised if say a newbie comes onto your post some months/years later, with a different issue altogether. Just celebrate the fact that they’ve actually made it that far:partying_face:Because just joining the site and replying to any post can be a huge challenge and immensely fatiguing for a lot of newbies in early days of stroke recovery…I remember mine well

As always, your explanation and use of language is so helpful to explain and clarify any misunderstandings.
This Forum is very unique and it’s the only one I am proud to be a member of
If I may quote Groucho Marx “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member”
Of course, on this make an exception and I am proud to be a member of this club which has warmly embraced me a member.
Peace & Love
Hi all,
As this post had a lot of different topics in it, we’ve split this post into separate topics for medication and TIA to make sure the original poster gets the answers they need.

Hi Andrea,
I had my stroke, a minor one, in Jan 24 and thought that I had fully recovered movement down my left side in 4 months. I’m a little older than you, 80, and have AF which was probably the cause of the stroke but I still have occasional issues with my left side. I find it more difficult to be very precise with my left hand when trying to do detailed activities, like threading a needle or hitting the right hole with the peg in a cribbage board. My left foot seems to “wobble” occasionally and I almost trip or stagger very slightly which causes the odd minor bump. So I think your experience is probably normal. I also am fairly active although my golf is not as good as it used to be but I’m not sure that is anything to do with the stroke, I just use it as an excuse. I have also recently gone back to the Gym and that seems to be working fine so I would stop worrying and just get on with life.
Hi @philo ,I too am 80 and have paroxysmal af.
No one has mentioned my AF but I’m assuming it was that although have been on anticoagulants for years. So just saying hello really. I’m so impressed by your level of fitnesss.I can manage a twenty minute slow walk on good days, but have never been fit I’m afraid.
Random symptoms that fit with stroke diagnosis can be unsettling. I keep meaning to make a list of symptoms I’ve had and it wasn’t another stroke!!
Hi Andrea
Like you, I was fit and healthy - played tennis weekly and at competition level, had an allotment so ate healthy organic food. I had none of the FAST signs when I had my stroke last July. All I felt was slight heaviness in my limbs like I was coming down with a virus so it’s a real worry that I won’t be able to tell the difference now between a stroke and a virus. I guess it’s something we just have to live with.
You’re never too old to increase your fitness! Get your walking shoes on
If you could have a range of responses, I’m not sure I’d “like”. Not helped as husband waiting for heart intervention of some sort and even slower than me at present!! We are both creaking gates but happy. You are right of course
Hi Andrea,
Like yourself I had two strokes , I was fit healthy had 2 TIA’s but didn’t realise it at the time. ECG results not passed onto consultant on wrong meds which didn’t help and had stroke number 2. Turns out after 24 years military service I have AFIB. So I am just hoping I don’t have another.
