Quick Mental Exerciser

Greetings folks!

Here’s a little puzzle for you to solve …

I was going to St. Ives when
I met a man with 7 wives
Each wife had 7 sacks
Each sack had 7 cats
Each cat has 7 kittens.

Kittens, cats, sacks and wives, hoe many were going to St. Ives.

You have 30 seconds to solve before this message self destructs …

There are no prizes, but you get a bonus point if you can name the film from which the above was “borrowed”.

Good lucks

It’s a bit late in the day for me but I am going to say 1 as it doesn’t say all the others were going to St Ives just you met them en route.

As for the film…not a clue

I’m with Mrs. 5k – 1–. First I came up with 2,402, but that’s only if all were going to St. Ives. Matthew, I’m impressed you knew the movie!

The Die Hard films have now become the Bond films or the Great Escape films that was on every Christmas. I love the first Die Hard film and have seen it many times

Ok, so by now everyone seems to have arrived to answer as 1 based on the opening “I was going to St. Ives …”
… but I am not convinced the answer is one.
What if the man I meet is ALSO going to St. Ives?
I mean where does it say he wasn’t going to St. Ives or he was going in the opposite direction?
I feel there is insufficient information to categorically say that the answer is 1.
Still it does make you think.

Well done to all who took part and arrived at the answer.

 :+1:
