Progressive stroke

A loved one has a stroke that is still progressing. I have not had time to find resources about this. I hope it stops soon. It is day 4. How many days can it go on for?

Sorry to hear of your loved ones progressive stroke. It must be very worrying for you all.

I haven’t seen anything that would suggest a definitive time line for this type of stroke. The article I read suggest anything from hours to several days. I imagine it may progress until some sort of medical intervention takes place or it reaches a natural conclusion e.g. a bleed stops bleeding.

I assume your loved one is in hospital receiving medical care / treatment. I hope it stops progressing soon so thoughts can turn to recovery.

Best wishes

Hello @Flapjack - I wasn’t aware there was such a thing as a progressive stroke and had to look it up. Having looked it up I can’t say I have that much more of an understanding of it, but it seems that it is an ischemic where the neurological symptoms and deficits worsen gradually over time, rather than appearing suddenly and remaining relatively stable.

Based on that, I hope that your loved one is in hospital right now getting treatment to manage and bring this under control.

Also as you have identified it as a progressive stroke, I conclude from that that your loved one must be in a hospital or similar environment receiving professional care and support.

I would suggest the best place to get answers in the first instance is from the consultant who is treating your loved one. Typically, in hospitals, consultants make at least a daily visit to see patients under their care and will discuss things during that visit. Further, they can normally be contacted through the ward sister/nurse or other named contact and hopefully they would spare you some time to discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have.

If anyone on this forum has knowledge or experience of a progressive stroke, I hope this will come along soon and offer some advice.
