Possible Mis-information sharing

Hello Folks!

I am posting this message because it has occurred to me that some of my posts or responses have included links from external sites e.g. YouTube, the BBC etc. that have been about medical content and that potentially these may have not been fact checked or verified.

I am unable to go back through all my posts to check them and so I am posting this message to advise that it has never been my intention to share mis-information or to offer advice that I myself would not follow. That is not to say that just because I would follow it, it would necessarily be suitable for everyone.

As a rule, I only share information that I myself believe in, have used or have experience of, but I must stress that it is always my own view and belief that it is based on.

I now wish to state that I personally do believe nor trust everything I read, see or hear. In the age of the internet, I am now even more cautious about what I take on board with so much mis-information and fake news out there. There are times when I struggle to know what is real and what is fake. I therefore always err on the side of caution.

Finally, I include here a link to an item on the BBC website that explains how mis-information can be spread and how we must as individuals take responsibility for what we accept as truth, especially if it impacts us directly (and I stress I do not endorse this as I cannot categorically state that just because it is on the BBC it is gospel)

Steven Bartlett: The Truth Behind the Podcast - BBC iPlayer

One final comment I would add, and I must state categorically that this is my own personal view based on my and my families experiences of dealing with professionals and specifically as applicable to this forum, the medical profession and that is that not everything we have been told or are told by the healthcare professionals has turned out to be accurate - it has been their professional view/opinion, but it did not apply to us as individuals.

It is my sincerest wish that this post has not caused any confusion or concern to anyone reading it.

As the saying goes, “The truth is out there!”

Please continue as you are.
Your contribution is valid, useful and welcome.
Best wishes to you.

In this age of uncertainty despite what many imply there is not a sure course through life for anyone.

Our views might not always tally but that does not take value away from them.

Some see those who have been affected by stroke as reverted to childhood, imbecilic even.

We might be disabled but we are fully functioning adults.

Those who join this forum are all adults and therefore able to judge for themselves.

As adults we are responsible for the course we take and most are aware that it is possible to be mistaken.

What I am trying to say without going into debate is that we have each a point of view and that each is valuable and relevant.
Equally we should speak our truth whether it different or the same as others.
We each need to take responsibility for our decisions and judgements.
It is what adults do.

To complete my ‘rant’ I’d like to quote this story.

The sages and the elephant.

The parable of the six blind sages and the elephant is a well-known story used to illustrate how individuals can have vastly different perceptions of the same reality based on their limited experiences. In the story, six blind sages encounter an elephant for the first time and attempt to understand it by touching different parts of its body.

Each sage describes the elephant based on their individual tactile experience:

, one feels the ear and says it is like a fan
, another feels a leg and claims it is like a tree
, a third feels the tail and says it is like a rope
, a fourth feels a tusk and says it is like a spear
, a fifth feels the side and says it is like a wall
, and the sixth feels the trunk and says it is like a snake.

Despite each sage being partially correct based on their limited perception, they argue fiercely, unable to agree on a unified understanding of the elephant.

What more can one say?

keep on keepin on

I think @Bobbi has summed up perfectly. I think in this age of mass communication, we all spend much more time separating the wheat from the chaff.

Hey Bobbi and Rupert - Thanks for the reassurance.

I appreciate what you are saying but just felt uncomfortable after sharing a couple of YouTube videos that in my view are potentially divisive and then to make matters worse there was a link to a BBC investigation on mis-information.

But, as you say we are all adults and this forum is about sharing experiences, good, bad or indifferent.

First time I am seeing the elephant and sages parable

Take care.

I think that many of us fall into that trap!
