Portuguese Olive Oil

Just to reiterate my enthusiasm for the stuff, mostly for the benefit of @ManjiB, my friend picked up the last six bottles tonight from Lidl, during their Iberian week. Here is me in the lap of olive oil luxury :joy:

Glad to see your cat/kitten keeping an eye on you as you glug your way towards very relaxed bowels.

I’m sure it will bring great relief, regularity, rest and relaxation.

Now you must rustle up a salad, dressed with oil, apply oil to some tasty fresh bread , or heat oil and make brushetta with the very same bread.

Wish I’d known about the Lidl treasure trove.

It’s my cat Annie, my dog Molly is about ten times the size, you can’t miss her.

It is indeed a haul. When my friend came to the door, I put on an Al Capone gangster voice and said, Did’ya get the goods? And proceeded to refer to them as contraband all throughout the evening. He got a bit exhausted by my interjectory routines and finally snapped, You sound nothing like a gangster. :joy: Ah, the joys of my post stroke no filter.

Hey Rupert - thank you for posting this for my benefit and I was so looking forward to getting some of this, but alas it was not to be.

I don’t know what it is but when I went to my local Lidl, the Portuguese OO was nowhere to be seen :frowning: All they had was the Italian and Greek varieties. I asked a staff member who pointed me to another section of the store (canned goods) but there was nothing there either. I also looked in the special offers but no joy.

It may be that it is so popular and got sold out but I guess for now I will just have to wait.

I have looked on the internet and note Ocado is the only other place where they seem to stock the Portuguese OO - not sure if it is the same as the Lidl version but I guess I could try that. I am budget conscious and would prefer the Lidl version as I am guessing it would be competitively priced and better value for money?

I’ll keep an eye out and if I see another Iberian week promotion I will try again.

Thanks again.

For now the Caldo Verde 101 I make will have to be made with the Spanish variety of OO I use.

That’s who I try to do! :joy: Maybe I need to stick cotton wool balls in my cheeks to maximise the effect.

I am unfamiliar with this store but having looked to see it is M&S, it will be bucks. Olive oil is the next best thing to invest in now next to gold. My six bottles should increase in value if I stored them. Usually, Lidl Portuguese olive oil is in the foreign food aisles where they do their monthly themed imports. It’s still expensive, I only use it for flavour, for everything else I use rapeseed oil. Those six bottles will last me a year. :spiral_calendar::olive:

Ocado is an online “supermarket” - a bit like the “LastMinute.com” holiday company.
It started as a partner with Waitrose delivering Waitrose supermarket products.
A few years ago they fell out or plans changed and Ocado switched to M&S and also started producing its own brands.

It is also listed on the Stock Exchange and I think it is not doing too good right now, but that is an altogether another story.

Below is the Lidl oils section minus the Portuguese Iberian promotion.

I will check the “Foreign” section next time I get a chance.

I also use Rapeseed oil for cooking and Olive oil for dressing and dips and the occasional stir fry when I also add Sesame seed oil at the end to give it the distinctive taste.

@Rups , easiest way to do it. Al Pacino is (for me) the hardest impression.

@ManjiB , 9 times out of 10 I go to my local Lidl. Also, Aldi. They have a good selection too.
