I’m a former gigging musician and songwriter. I had my stroke just under 3 years ago and I had to retire from gigging but the creative, songwriting side of my brain is still functioning. I’m looking for a writer of stage plays who has maybe got physical difficulties but who’s mind is still active and creative. I have an idea for a comedy musical play. I have written songs but need to find a writer who is familiar with theatre who can tie my songs together with a story, to create a full length stage musical. Please contact me for more details.

@MusicalChris1
I was casting around recently as my local stroke group is closing down in a month or two.
It was suggested to me to try U3A the university of the third age.
They have many talented people, retired rather than disabled, whose aim is to keep active.
I have only just joined but they do have interests in drama, creative writing and so on, maybe giving them a look could be productive?
They are a national concern with local groups scattered all over.
I don’t know if this would be useful, maybe someone else here has some ideas?
From what I read elsewhere on the forum @blerdman might share interests with you. I hope something comes together for you.
Just popping by to say hi & welcome @MusicalChris1
I hope you manage to find someone who can help with your request. It sounds interesting & look forward to hearing how you get on.
Hi Bobbi,
Thanks for the contact suggestion. I will give him a try and also the U3A.
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks for your reply. I’m surprised by how many stroke survivors there are on this forum, it’s something I never thought about using but everybody has a story to tell and it’s good to read about the experiences of others.
Yes there are many of us here. All with different, but similar, stories to tell. I learnt more about strokes here than I did from the medical professionals. I guess there is nothing like the lived experience.
Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and having to retire from gigging.
Sounds like an interesting project, I hope you can find someone to help with it, please keep us posted!
Anna
Thanks Anna,
I’m currently following up on a few suggested contacts so we’ll see what comes of it.

Chris - Just in case you haven’t met yet, Tony @blerdman is interested in the opportunity to write your stage plays.
Thanks for your help.
Hi @Anna_Moderator,I find the stroke association website is really lacking with regard to guidance on speech.the site discusses damage to the speech centre leading to aphasia but doesn’t discuss loss of speech due to a tracheostomy and how to overcome loss of speech.I ultimately have to learn to speak again like a 3-month old baby.i have no SAlT.and again it would be useful if the site listed ways to get SALT support.
Thanks
Mich.
I’d be happy to draft content for the site if wanted?
Hi @Mich-mm,
Thank you for your feedback about the content on our webpage about communication I will feed this back for you, however you can also Tell us what you think | Stroke Association by visiting that webpage.
With regards to loss of speech due to a tracheostomy, there are specialist websites for this that have more information that you could have a look at. I’ve found the below site you could look at which has some good links to further information too.
You can also email our helpline at helpline@stroke.org.uk. They may be able to help direct you to more resources and to help with how to get a speech and language therapist to be able to help you regain your speech.
I hope this helps.
