Hi all hope all is good.
Was looking at a post about vision recovery on my mobile, come on here to reply. do you think I can find it. Lol.
Anyway I too lost peripheral vision April 23. Not driven since. However last christmas I realised that while watching the TV I could make out the twinkly xmas lights on an adjacent mirror. Looking at TV the left hand bezel was about a foot to the right from where is should be and that section was blurred. By the new year I could clearly see the lights on the mirror while looking at centre of tv. I can now clearly see reflections in the mirror about a foot to the left while looking at centre of tv.
If there were 4 people sitting side by side I couldn’t see the left side person. I can now.
The tv is now back to its normal size although left 12 inches is slightly blurred.
In addition we have always had white fairy lights around the room at ceiling height. looking at a fixed point initially I could see 1 or 2 lights to the left now I can see 4 to 5 quite clearly. found that I rarely bump into things now or stub my toe on the sofa.
Admittedly I nave a long way to go but am hopeful to drive again one day.
Sorry if this is longwinded but there may be some hope for you.
Take care.
@Seeney thats great news. Sounds like little by little your vision is improving. Here’s to more improvements and a return to driving for you.
Great to hear of improvements.
Hi, thanks for your comments. My sight is clear up to about 2 feet to the left. Then hazy for about 6 feet to the left but that’s a great improvement for me. The further away my field increases its within a couple of feet I have trouble. In a supermarket for instance standing in middle I can see all the shelving from me to the end of isle.
Take care.
Ah yes the first one. Thanks Simon.
Take care.
Hi, you say you are registered partially sighted. Should we all be doing that?
Take care.
I suffered similar left peripheral field damage 14 years ago and had to surrender my driving licence.
Worth contacting Specsavers to ask where they have a branch that can check your visual field.
I have experienced similar improvement and no longer bump into things or trip on hazards as I used to .
At age 77 I am content to use my senior citizen travel pass but if younger I would explore the possibility of driving again.
Hi, thanks for that. How much peripheral vision if any did you regain?
I get my peripheral vision checked every few months. going end of this month so hope they can see the improvement. Hoping to officially get licence back soon. I know I’m now capable, hope they agree. Miss driving so much.
Take care.
My estimate is that it is almost 100% .
I remember that even 5 years ago I had some awareness of left peripheral field imperfection, mainly in the upper quadrant, but now there is no awareness.
If I ever get the opportunity I will take a visual field test to get a more objective answer.
Fortunately I live in London NW1 with 24/7 public transport free inside the M25 and except for 0400-0900 M-F it is free with my senior citizen travel pass.
Driving has become so expensive ,and largely not missed as I am fully adapted to life without a car.
best wishes
Tony
