Newbie Alert!

Good morning @jonnyDee , just popped in to welcome you to the forum. You couldn’t have picked a better group to join and I look forward to seeing you around the forum :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Can’t join you in the gaming conversation, but exercise I’ve become addicted to. And the best one to getting you started is sit to stands. Excellent for helping you get your legs back under you

And it’s a simple enough one to do. Just sit on a chair and stand up again…hands free only if you can.

Aim to do 10 repetitions, but we don’t always get there to begin with. Your goal is to aim to do 3 sets of 10. This can be built up to over the weeks. And if you are aching down the backs of your legs the following day, you know you are doing it right and can give your legs a day off to recover:sweat_smile:

Another one, which can be an all over exercise, is getting down on the floor and getting back up again. Sound easy enough for a fully fit body, but not so for a stroke body. There are lots of videos on the internet about how to do this safely and efficiently. I’d advise everyone to this before they have a fall…which is inevitable in our condition.

And don’t worry about making mistakes on this forum, they too are inevitable considering our brain’s condtion. I took me a year of trying before I managed join this forum and very confusing. You’ll get there with practice like the rest of us

Happy Birthday Bob  I was 64 yesterday too :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Although my kids put 65 on on my cake because they broke the number 4 candle. But they could have made it 56 instead :frowning::rofl:

@jonnyDee , I liked their first couple of albums when Fish was in it. The tune Kayleigh is top of the tree for me. That’s what drawn me to them. I also his solo stuff too. I heard one of tunes on Planet Rock. “Man with a stick” it’s called. Love the guitar work on it. As for games, I like allsorts. Like certain type of music, if I think it’s good, I’m all over it. I mainly like racing simulators. Sometimes using a VR headset. It give a more immersive feel when I change the camera angle to cockpit or bumper camera mode. A great sense of speed. Also bought recently a bunch of re-issued Assassins’ Creed games (the one with extra content included). Like them a lot. I’ll look out for the tribute band if they ever come to Manchester. Sounds really cool. Haven’t been too a concert in a long time. Anyway, hope things are OK where you are.

Now look, if you’re going to do this, I suggest you watch this video. This video is one of the best videos on the subject I have ever seen. It is truly a m a zing!!
There is an added bonus with this video and it is the running commentary - again one of the best I have ever heard.

This is a must watch video !!

"There’s a lot of huffin’ and puffin’ "

The man is a true inspiration
And behind him is an equally inspirational woman.

Please join me in raising a glass to Robert and Hilary !!

And that’s the best video demonstration everyone needs to see. Because it’s real life, not just acting/demonstrating. And who better to do it than Bobbi.

It proves my point, on how it gives a stroke survivors a full body workout to complete the whole process. It also activates the triggers to your brain, your natural instincts to try engaging your stroke limbs to aid the process thus giving the brain a workout too. All very necessary in stroke recovery

Hi Johnny and welcome to the forum. Im afraid I’m not a gamer or sports fan except rugby, but I’m sure you will find lots of support from this wonderful forum. I had a haemorrhagic stroke 20 months ago and am still recovering as we all are.

It can be a long journey, but with your wife and Ziggy I’m sure you will receive full support. My husband has been my carer for many years through other illnesses, but now we add the stroke needs he has to cover !! It’s a busy life. I now use a rollator for very short walks and I eventually agreed to buy a mobility scooter, which I was against initially, but having it now gives me the freedom I lost after my stroke. So, I wish you well on your road to recovery, just take it easy and slowly and always remain positive, (that can be difficult some days), but it gives us stroke survivors that extra kick up the backside! Take care and best wishes. Sue FONC

Hilary rang our local surgery this afternoon. Apparently I won’t get house visits any more. I’m quite well enough to walk into the surgery so they say.

They must have a video of me doing handstands and cartwheels taken last year.

Artificial Intelligence is remarkably creative.

Happy burpday young man, I didn’t see it even announced but caught the well-wishers just in time methinks.

@jonnyDee - You have reminded me that I used to love this song …

I love music of all genres and often post links to songs that remind of the good times and others that remind of the better time

As I recall, I first heard it on TVs (the late Tommy Vance) Friday Rock Show Annual Top 10.

I hope you enjoy this too.

Its clever this AI. I wonder if it can help us all do handstands and cartwheels. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

On a serious note I wonder how your GP has deduced that. Another trip out for the scooter maybe

@jonnyDee good morning and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your stroke. Your appear tobhavevprogressed well over the years, which is very positive. I too am stroke survivor, but do not appear to have had as many obstacles to climb as yourself. I am Scottish but unfortunately live and work near Heathrow. Life is a challenge every day. I wish you well. Have a great day :four_leaf_clover:

@Jbob

I hope that you have a great time seeing the scratch; they are not a band that I’ve heard of but will give them a listen on my streaming platform which album of there’s would you recommend?

It sounds like your reason for supporting the Packers is the same as mine for supporting the Patriots! On reflection; it was a lucky pick for me, I think that we were lucky last season to reach the Super Bowl! And the fact that we we dismantled by the Seahawks in the game didn’t come as a big surprise to me

What are your expectations for the Packers for the forthcoming season?

Regards

Thanks for your message, have a great day yourself and I hope that you get to enjoy some of the :sun:

I am pleased with some aspects of my recovery but am frustrated that my arm shows no sign of wanting to work again

What is your job? I was an accountant before my stroke but have been unable to work since the stroke; I miss it enormously as I used to love what I did and the people I worked with!

Which part of Scotland are you from?

Hi @Bigmugoftea

Thanks for your message

It’s great to hear from you

I used to like a big mug of tea but have gone off tea since my stroke; one of the weird consequences of my stroke!

Hi @harimanjaro

I never thought for a moment thought that I’d stumble across another HMHB fan on this forum

Like you I first heard them on the John Peel show before a friend at school gave me a tape of the Back in the DHSS album

They are still releasing music and if you have the chance I’d recommend the albums; No-one cares about your creative hub so get your f**** HEdge cut and Achtung Bono

Strange isn’t it how your tastes change? I loved coffee before my stroke but went right off it afterwards. I had to learn to love it again
