Hi I had my stroke last July, a small clot on the left side of my brain. Was put on blood thinners, high blood pressure meds and statins amongst other meds.
I have had issues walking since I had breast cancer - physisosemtic due to not emotionally dealing with the trauma. I started getting pain in my muscles when walking about Oct, I put it down to my earlier walking difficulties. However, the muscle pain has been increasing and my ability to walk almost impossible. I saw GP in Feb and she took me off statins. My muscle pain has travelled up my back, arms and neck. I struggle to shower and have had to go to the hairdresser weekly to wash my hair as I find it difficult to raise my arms that long. I also struggle to brush my hair.
The pain is now horrendous in my neck and find keeping my head up hard. I have also noticed that my arms and legs shake when I am trying to stand still.
I have been contacting the GP for over 3 weeks to get an appointment but they have classed it as non urgent. I do have one now for Friday. Should I try and escalate the appointment or go to A and E.
@kirstytwin Good morning Kirsty and welcome to the Forum. I would have gone to A & E. You have appointment for Friday so we are almost there. I too suffer pain all over my body, but not on the level you seem to have. I have great empathy for you, I feel your struggle. I have not spoken to my GP about this as I find the practice useless. It makes you feel vulnerable. I struggle standing in queues, the pain is unbearable. I wish you well for the future and hope you obtain some answers. I am stroke survivor from November 2024.
Kirsty, just go straight to A&E. In fact just call ambulance.
If that pain is so severe and right up to your neck, arms, legs affected, it could be spinal, you’ve had cancer too! This is classed as an emergency.
Hi @kirstytwin & welcome to the community. I would agree with @IreneFC & @EmeraldEyes you need to go to A&E & I would call an ambulance to take you there.
Friday is too long to wait. I hope you get seen quickly & they are able to provide you whatever treatments you need.
Welcome to the community. I’m really sorry you’re going through this, it sounds like things have been getting more difficult for you, especially with the pain and how much it’s affecting your day-to-day life.
As others have said, it would be a good idea to get medical help as soon as you can. Given how your symptoms have been getting worse, you don’t have to wait until Friday, you could go to A&E to be seen sooner. If you feel very unwell, or need urgent help, don’t hesitate, please call 999.
I hope you’re able to get some answers and the right support soon. Please do keep us updated if you feel able.
Hello and thank you for all your messages. I went through 111 and they advised me to see GP. However I am going to contact my stroke nurse and see if she can put some pressure on the Drs surgery.
I am not at home alone my husband and youngest son is here. I will keep you up to date and thank you again.
Just an update. I saw GP 27th March and had blood tests on 31st March. Nothing happened but called 111 on Tuesday they sent an ambluence and they got me a GP appointment who then sent me to estec ? Finally was admitted that evening. Neuro will not see me but physio have said I have FND. They are coming back tomorrow to explain things. So hoping for improvements.
