Neuro Occupational Therapist

Hi. Has anyone had any experience of using a Neuro Occupational Therapist please? Not a physio but an Occupational Therapist in regard to progressing after a stroke. I have had excellent help from a Neuro Physio who has unfortunately now left the area and there are no other private Neuro Pyhsios around here. I have been talking to a Neuro OP today who seems very knowledgeable and explained what she does but would like to hear anyone’s experiences of using one and finding out if it helped. Thanks

I had an Occupational Therapist in the early days. I’m guessing she was a neuro one as she specialised in brain injuries. I found her very helpful & she worked with me on my cognitive issues so that I was able to return to work.

Sadly she left the NHS & i never saw / heard from them again so continued on my own with the techniques she taught me.

You have nothing to lose by giving them a try.

Thanks Ann. Think I will give her a try. She certainly seemed very knowledgeable but my idea of occupational therapists is making wicker baskets and picking up marbles!!! Anything is worth a try really isnt it! Hope you are keeping well . Janet

Im ok but not where I want to be!! Wobbling round the house without a stick but walking up the stairs ok. So slight improvements

Suggestions from OT’s got me :

climbing the stairs and ultimately getting a wet room.
taking a driving assessment and eventually returning to driving.
putting in grab rails to make wobbling around the house safer and with confidence.

I have only come across them occasionally and after cross examining them (I can be a cruel interogator) I discover they are only employed on short contracts to keep costs down.

So make good use while you can if one does pass by your way.

Thanks Bobbi. Pleased your OT was so helpful and know how well you are doing now. I am very gradually improving but it takes so long doesn’t it? I will try the OT even though she is charging mega bucks but if she helps then it will be worth it! Watch this space! Take care and keep on keeping on! Janet
