@nerrad67 Lorraine @EmeraldEyes has provided you lots of useful advice & there is loads in there for you to work with. She is though advising from her own experience & isn’t medically trained. She did also advise seeking medical attention. I may have misread some things in the posts but it looks to me like your clicking / cracking was in your knee & Lorraine’s was her toe? This puts a different perspective on it perhaps.
Yes I did describe it as a crack, as in how stiff joints sometimes click or crack and yes it did hurt momentary. But then my foot felt looser and freer, as in the crack was loosened tension in my foot and I was walking better as a result.
However, the crack you felt resulted in your foot turning even more and you still haven’t said whether it still hurts? I seriously think you should have it examined professionally before you do anything more with it. You were just doing squats at the time when this happened. That shouldn’t really have caused a fracture in your foot. So seek a doctors advise at the very least. Don’t wear the toe separators and do continue wearing the splint as that will also act as a cast on your foot to keep it stable in the meantime.

I meant clicking.
Getting confused again I am.
Angel eyes has been a godsend to me and so have you.
My physio today said all I needed was to use my foot splint to sort foot drop, foot turning sideways and curling toes not turning insoles or toe separators.
But the splint hurts and I can’t always get it on when my foot swells so I’m trying to find otherways to fix things.
Sometimes everything gets too much for me and I just want to stop everything including my tablets and just lay on my bed.
There’s not been any crack anywhere I was trying to tell my physio about what you told me about what happened after wearing the insoles petal.
When your foot clicked and how you could walk better.
Couldn’t remember if it was a click or a crack.
He thinks I should just wear the splint but when my foot swells I can’t get my splint on so I have been looking for other ways to fix my foot turning and toes turning
You’re doing well. The physio will always advise you the “medical way” as that is what they are trained to do. There is no harm trying other things as long as you are sensible about it. I have an orthotic too and I found it uncomfortable if I wore it too long. It also made my ankle stiffer so i had to make sure I massaged it and moved it after removing my splint.
You are bound to have days where you feel like not bothering but as Lorraine has said this isn’t a quick fix & you have to persevere for the long term. There is no harm in having a rest day now & again.
Keep going. You’re making progress even if it doesn’t feel like it at times. I kept a diary so I could look back & see how much I had progressed. It is better to look back in terms of weeks/ months as it is easier to see progress than looking day to day.
Thanks love your a star.
I have to put a heel cushion on the inside of my splint as splint rubs the side of my foot sore. Shall I show you what I use?
I understand perfectly wanting to stop everything. I went through those days too, and am sure many others on here have too, stop the world I want to get off.
We go through so many highs and lows in recovery, and it’s alright to have a day off from all things stroke. Just keep taking your tablets though because things could be much worse if you have a bigger stroke. And I did get overwhelmed with information in my pursuit to find ways to improve. Every so often, I just had to mentally shut down and reboot myself, sometimes even if it meant disregarding all the information or links I had gained. But rest assured, it can and will get better, we just need time and patients.
I think a suitable compromise to wearing your splint when your foot is swollen or sore would be to alternate between the two, splint when you can and insoles when you can’t. The insoles will reduce the risk of your heel turning over but it won’t aid the foot drop. But you will at least be continuing with some of physio of it.
I remember when I broke ankle and to wear an ortho-boot which rubbed constantly on my ankle, so I just put a bit more padding down the side where it rubbed.
You can also get gel pads which might help.
Lorraine
That would be good thank you. Is your splint perhaps a little too tight? I know they need to be but if it is causing sores it might be too tight.
These are what I use where my ankle is and they help.
I don’t bend them over edge of the splint just leave them straight.
Also if you put 1 in, try it and it’s not in right place you can take it out and move it.
Only then not after you have been wearing the splint
Why don’t you stick them to the splint instead?
Lorraine
I got the insoles today so am going to try 1 in tonight see how it is.
My trainer is a size 13 so I doubt I will have to trim the insole but I will let you know Lorraine.
You will most probably have to remove the insole that is already in there, otherwise your shoe is going to be too tight. Remember, your toes still need wiggle room to move around in. And be sure to keep the insole in a safe place where you can find it, should you need to put it back in.
Also, don’t wear both the spint with the sloped insole. Because the splint is already designed to correct the turn in your foot, by wearing them together you risk over-compensation, sending the foot turning too inward.
Lorraine
After putting the insoles in my trainer I found out that the insole was way too small so it looks like I’m stuck with using my splint
Oh damn, can you get them changed for a bigger size? Amazon are usually pretty easy doing that, and certainly if you are only exchanging them for a bigger size.
Lorraine
Nope it’s the only size they have
My physio said that the foot stretching I do against the wall has the same effect as the 1 you showed with toes up skirting board and knee on wall
Oh fudge and fiddlesticks ![]()
Do you have a cobblers like Timpsons or someone near you? If you did, they could probably make one up for, taking that one as an example.
Lorraine
Not anymore.
I’m supposed to be contacted by community team sometime but I’m not holding my breath
