Hi, new here @Zazzy … just collapsed in the high street … los5 t8me … EVERY9NE WALKED BY  just had enough charge on phone. (ironic) … rang ambulance … yes signs of stroke. taken to the torturous local hospital (they won’t take you anywhere else) … usual story… left on trolley, zero treatment or scans … discharged … no advice or paperwork. slept for five days except loo break! Have had had three full on strokes in four years up until end last year … now this. had a junior dr, poss just out of med school as they were SHAKING! I’m not that scary btw. Anyway, all ideas welcome as don’t know what to do, who to ask to see (the area I live has a reputation for poor nhs care), what to watch out for. Previous str9kes were blood clots temples. wish zi could afford private treatment .. but then you still might get s9meone dodgy. Sorry re typing. Hello btw :waving_hand::sparkles:

Hi @Zazzy & welcome to the community. I can’t believe everyone walked by when you collapsed in street. That’s terrible & thankfully you were able to call an ambulance. I am amazed you didn’t get a scan if they suspected a stroke. A CT scan is normally the least you would get. Have they made you any follow up appointments? I would ask for a referral to the stroke team so they can look into why you keep having strokes. You may need heart tests etc. Given your previous strokes are you on all the usual stroke meds? Depending on how you’re affected you may need physio / OT referrals.

I would definitely make a GP appointment to discuss all your concerns.

Hope you get some help soon.

Hi @Zazzy

Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your strokes and the treatment you have had. It’s awful that people walked passed you when you collapse.

I would definitely suggest starting with your GP, if you can get an appointment with them. Write down every question you want answering. I would also suggest contacting our Stroke Support Helpline:0303 3033 100 a call. They will also be able to help with next steps for you.

I hope you’ll find this community helpful. If you need anything whilst you’re using the Online Community, please don’t hesitate to tag me using the @ symbol and my username.

Shwmae, I had four strokes in three months, seems my brain doesn’t do things in halves. When you say you are unsure what to do, is it about contacting services or for follow-up advice from a stroke consultant or stroke team? Is it to do with your physical or psychological issues? Or is it about rehabilitation?

After stroke, I saw no one for at least eight months (lockdown) but even then after that it was just my stroke consultant for two follow-up appointments.

@Mrs5k Phones eh?:expressionless_face: Unfortunately terrible hospital if you go in on your own. (no witnesses). the paramedics damaged my already damaged knee … horrendous day. I’ve finally decided to sue them as I’ e been going round and round in a loop with them for decades, going out if the hosp worse than admitted. no follow up … I’ve been sleeping every day till today and finally asked my gp today to try and get something in place. been wait8ng for a neurologist for four years after first stroke. might get a ghost writer to write a book one day rec what’s happened. tx fr strokes team.. tried on first stroke but because it took them five months to ‘notice’ the blood clot in my brain first stroke … couldn’t get referred as past the deadline (no pun 8ntentended!). only been week so fingers crossed, but we live in the dark ages where I live so not feeling v positive re what they’ll do. had reaction to initial drug four years ago beginn8ng with p … so just on baby aspirin. wish I could move to another part of the country maybe with ‘better’ nhs?? … no hope for me here sadly. physio/ot you literally have to be immovable in bed to maybe get a referral. it’s hard as I currently have noone to stuck up for me. not being a victim but trying to deal with the aftermath is a nightmare. thank good ness for the forum and lovely people. Thankyou for your kind words @Mrs5K … I was on the Forum ages ago, Iit’s good to see some ofvthec’stalwarts’ still here … think that’s the word! whoah, one paragraph … exhausted … will check in again later. Tx again for being so kind :waving_hand::sparkles:

Hi @Zazzy

Sadly, I can believe that people just walked by. I’ve been an epileptic for more than 50 years now, and had plenty of episodes among the public. They simply ignore you and think you’re a drunk or something. And the bracelet I wear, that’s rarely visible unless someone actually pay attention.

My partner went straight to the GP, and from there, he was sent to the hospital for a scan. They admitted him immediately after that scan. But, he had to take the bus from the GP to the hospital while having an ongoing stroke. So to expect that they will simply catch you when you fall like this, that’s apparently not realistic. If I had known that they would be so dismissive, I would have gone with him and refused to leave the surgery before they called 999 for an ambulance.
So, don’t stay silent. Make yourself heard, that’s a good thing right now.

There’s a lot of people with a lot of knowledge in this forum, and it’s very helpful.
Good luck

It sounds like your local hospital is a nightmare. And I thought ours was bad. I’m not sure it is much better anywhere else these days either. Not the staff’s fault but the system is very broken. Hopefully, your fatigue
will start to ease off now. You’ve been through a lot so it will have taken a lot out of you, and you will have needed the sleep to help you recover. Fingers crossed your GP will now start to get things rolling for you. Neurology appointments do tend to
be like gold dust. I got referred to a neuro psychologist 4 years ago and am still waiting too. I have written the appointment off and probably wouldn’t need it now anyway.

Trying to deal with everything that is going on for you on your own must be very difficult. My GP is great and I still found it difficult to deal with things.

Yes, still some of the old stalwarts around on the forum. Everyone here is very kind and friendly. I still find it good to speak to people in a similar situation to me as they understand more of what we are going through.

Hope things settle for you soon. Take care.

I can’t believe they let him get a bus to the hospital…or maybe I can. I had to get myself to the hospital butat least my GP checked I had someone to take me and they called the stroke nurse so she knew I was on my way.

GP’s these days seems to be more like a revolving door than what it used to be. But I think that Covid simply ruined a lot when it came to the caring bit. Too many patients and not enough staff can do that. Also, overworked and underpaid. So nothing surprises me anymore.

For sure. I think Covid did us no favours at all. Our local hospital trust have a recruitment ban despite many vacancies and hospital being overwhelmed. It’s madness expecting the staff to manage more work with less of them.
