My Stoke

Hello I am new here. I at m.y Stroke at work in August. It was a shock and turned my life upside down. i found it hard to deal with and still do. My partner and her children have been fantastic dealing with it especially as her youngest child was going off to uni and her eldest child was home finishing their masters. She has had to deal with all mood swings with me my self blame because I caused the stroke due to not taking my blood pressure tablets and not seeing my children due to the fact they live in London and we live in Yorkshire. It 3 months on and the mood swings are a nightmare to deal with are a pain to everyone in the household. But what makes life nicer is the fact I have have the love and support of my family and my partners family too.
She has been my rock thought out this. Even in my darkest place she is my shining light and I wish I had her brilliant oulook on life

Hello @Nogggin.
Really sorry you’ve had a stroke and found yourself here but glad to hear you have a loving family to support you and help you through this.

Please don’t blame yourself for the stroke. Medication only reduces the risk of having one, it doesn’t necessarily prevent it. There are lots of combined factors that can lead to stroke, high blood pressure being one of them but there are likely other factors that were involved. Many people have high blood pressure and don’t even know it and never have a stroke. There were people on the stroke unit where I was who had been taking BP meds but still had strokes. You mustn’t blame yourself. It wasn’t your fault and you don’t need to live under that condemnation - it’s enough to handle for you to work on your recovery.

Look after yourself and come back here as much as you need to.
And don’t forget to let us know how you’re getting on😁

Well done , Noggin

I am guilty of high BP and stroke, just like you. But there is life after stroke, and a second chance to make everything just fine…

Hi & welcome to the community @Nogggin sorry to hear of your stroke. Good to hear you have a great support network around you. They are greatly needed to help you along your recovery journey.

Please don’t blame yourself for your stroke. You have enough to deal with without putting that burden on yourself too. Whatever the circumstances behind your stroke it can’t be changed now and you have to move forward. Going forward you can lower risk factors by taking your meds, eating healthily, reducing alcohol intake, stop smoking, exercise etc.

Emotional changes are common too. Anna has shared a link with you that may help you understand a bit more.

Best wishes to you & your family.

Ann
