Muscle strains

Hi Peter, I too suffer from cramps but have found amytryptine helps a lot. Also sometimes I just get up and make a hot drink and that does the trick I don't know if it's just the walking about but it usually has good results.

I am determined to be fit. I have no use of right leg or arm for 2 1/2 years. I walked 2 months after stroke and discharged from hospital 2 months. It was too depressing in there. Early months I could walk 2 miles but after a year the pain stopped it! My hip is chronic and have asked the doctors for replacement. But I have received no help.

I do love my little garden and do have quite good plant knowledge but I am hopeless with birds, my husband feeds some very demanding blackbirds and others.  I think it is important to have an interest in something, I am trying to decide what plants to order for my summer pots this year, something colourful I think.  It distracts me from fighting another chest infection.  Marylin

I have muscle pain in. The arm where I had a stoke and also muscle spasms.  Now I have pain in my opposite shoulder and hope it's not frozen. The pain is awful

Hi Dina, Like many of the other SS on this page you seem to be suffering similar ailments and the likely cause seems to be statins. I like to do some research on any meds I'm prescribed and have been prescribed two which can cause dreadful side effects, steroids and statins. Both have similar side effects, muscle and joint problems. I initially asked my GP to take me off them but they persuaded me to try another type, then another type, none of which lessened the side effects. I asked my GP how effective statins were in reducing the chances of having another stroke, they responded by saying out of 100 patients a FEW would not have another stroke. After that mind-blowing stat, I was determined to come off them, so when I next spoke to my neurologist, I described my symptoms and they did not hesitate in taking me off them. I suggest speaking to your neurologist and seek their view. I've been off them for a month now and I have regained about 50% of my thigh muscle strength and hopefully in a month my knees will improve as well.

No I came off statins before having my stroke as the pains in my legs were terrible. GP put me on a Fibronate to control my cholesterol. I must say my left leg seems to be jumping when in bed this can keep me awake through the night and then when get up I feel very shaky on my left leg? My son has bought me a weighted blanket that is suppose to help with anxieties and sleep so let's see if this helps? Must say can't wait for the better weather so can get out and practice my walking just want to get back to some normality? It is great to hear other people's experiences, you don't feel alone. Take care and good luck with your progress.
