thanks for replying colin I would walk furthe but my head wont allow it also we found this nice quiet lane now it is popular and I dont like passing other people at themoment with this covid nuiscance. Best wishes Norma.
I had a stroke a year ago seem to be recovering well for the first six months but recently I feel level deteriorated but it may be because the weather has made it impossible to get out as much as I was before. Does anyone else feel they've been going backwards.I struggle to build up exercise slowly and tend to overdo it and then be exhausted for a few days
Dear jmj
i continually thought i was going backwards, but i kept a diary which includes sleep and my own version of how bad the SF is.
this has shown that i recover gradually. But its so slow i can not see it. It also is a morale booster to look back and see just hw much you have overcome.
i took the option to avoid any overdoing. Not saying this is right, but i am aware thats what i am doing.
it is so hard to continually remember that , at your stage, there isnt any physical damage to your muscles etc. Its only the messaging system that is broken. If you can, then ensure every joint and every muscle gets a bit of movement.
yes the last six months have been truly awful. I do feel for you and any Ss who have been stroked during 2020.

I get severe cramp in my affected leg , (left) this is mainly during the night, I have taken many potions to alleviate this, but nothing works. my left arm is also painful. stroke happened 3/2018
Hi Peter,
Same as me, cramps at night, in my affected leg, also very painful in upper affected arm.
I've spoken to numerous doctors on this, and all say it takes time. I'm 20 months post, (June'19). Mike

Hi Peter - Do you take statins? One of the side effects of them is muscle cramp. I get it in both calves at night which wakes me up so I jump out of bed and do a couple of calf stretches and it takes it away till next time. I'm on Rosuvastatin.
My left side was affected by the stroke and now my muscles hurt and ache in my leg and arm affects my mobility stroke happened nov 2019
hi mike, im 36 months post and still suffer from cramps mostly in my affected leg. These are quite mild occuring usually as im waking and raising the toes solves the problem. With advise from my doctor I stopped taking my statin for a few days but this did not stop the cramps, graham
In response to JMJ and Norma Jean's postings, I have been suffering from tremendous weakness and aching in my thighs and knees, which makes walking unpleasant. I mentioned this to my neurologist who had no hesitation in telling me to cease taking my statins, I had tried three different types. It is now nearly five weeks and I am beginning to regain strength in my thighs but have been told it could be a while longer before they are out of my system completely. It would appear, that regardless of your good and bad cholesterol levels, anyone who has suffered a stroke is automatically prescribed them, so if you suffered like me and your cholesterol levels are good, stopping taking statins could be your answer, but be wise and seek medical advice first, preferably from your neurologist.
I suffer with muscle cramps probably from all the statins I have to take, they do improve slightly the more you walk. I have got up to walking 40 mins a day since my TIA in Nov. Mind over matter as my Mother was won't to say. The worst thing is to sit still. Use it or lose no matter how painful it is. It's tough love but it works. Marylin
I had a stroke August last year. I have a left sided weakness. My mussel over extens when walking but I felt things we improving but over the last weekI feel that I have gone backwards my walking is no where near as good as it was? I am still doing my excise so don't no why this is happening?
You're not alone Dottie, I felt the same until about six months after taking statins. Sometimes when walking I feel as though I have just come out of a pub after having consumed too much. It's good to share experiences and realise that your not alone. As I mentioned in my post, if you're on Statins and your cholesterol and lipid levels are good, see about coming off them, they literally are a pain!
Thanks, I have been having something similar. Because if Covid its been hard to get advice from dioc. I'll ask about this as dure blood test in 3 weeks. Feel a bit abandoned by NHS.
Yes JMJ, I am exactly the same, but mainly it's because I feel so exhausted most of the time. I put this down to lack of oxygen ie not going out while the weather is so cold. Hoping that Spring will change that.
I do a few stretchng exercises every morning I have go a routine I used to do Yoga and find it very useful now. I do the deep breathing and relaxation which helps an awful lot. I think we will all feel better when spring comes and we can get outside I really enjoy my afternoon walk and cant go now as I am frightened of fallin g on the ice which I miss a lot. Norma.
I am not able to tolerate statins from long before I had a stroke because of tremendous thigh pain My cardiologist changed me to cholesterol lowering injections which I do every other week. No side effects at all.
Thank you all for your encouragement sometimes it's just good to know you're not alone
Thanks for replying Marylin You sound clever with plants we spend our days and money feeding the bird which we enjoy and they certainly need help now especially with drinking water. I sit watching them out of the window and spend many an hour doing that. Best wishes Norma.
Very wise. I miss my walk so very much. I do however keep up with my daily stretch exercises. Mine are geared to recovery from a heart operation.
the ice will go soon, but a broken bone will not go soon. So lets keep in for a while.
