Multiple small infarcts in brain

Hi, I had a stroke march 22 and have waited 2 yrs to get an MRI and finally had one, results pretty depressing they say I have multiple small infarcts in brain and chronic SVD, Seems I’m just waiting for a massive disabling stroke plus dementia. GP says there’s nothing they can do as I’m already on blood thinners.

Sorry to hear that. There are things you can do to reduce your risk. Diet and lifestyle can increase the risk of stroke. Try not to worry too much, that could ruin your as much as a large stroke.

Really sorry to hear that. You can only do all you can to live a healthy lifestyle & reduce the risk as much as possible. Nothing is inevitable so live your life the best you can & try not to worry.

Best wishes

Hi @cutler662
My MRI show the same.
It’s common that it’s not picked up

You said in a previous post your on beta blockers & apixaban - so a heart slower (for blood pressure?) and an anticoagulant - I would guess most of us are on clopidegralel instead - they are standard

Many folk with svd[1] are also on anti cholesterol meds. There are some common meds in Europe that aren’t prescribed in the UK too.

If your GP is unhelpful try asking for a referral or a different GP. They have a duty of care for mental & physical well being.

On a different note this is yet another post that makes me wonder about labelling anything TIA. We might be better off describing everything as a stroke and then raising awareness that strokes come in a range of severities and that all of them have physical emotional and neurological impacts that have timescales lasting from seconds to decades…

Coming back to what you can do; as well as finding a medical representative who will discuss your situation with a view to improving it - perhaps? there is a degree of acceptance and mindfulness that may lead to enjoying the rest of yr life best you can whatever causes ( either trauma or slow decline) affects them?.

Lots of things you can do with natural ingredients ; garlic to reduce risk of clot formation. Turmeric (curcumin) with antiplatelet effects. Cayenne pepper = blood thinner. As is Vitamin E. Ginkgo Bilboa is another one Blueberries and other berries the same. Albacore tuna too helps thin the blood. Even olive oil. Don’t think of the few things you can do… think of the many things you can do!!! Above all, Keep positive, there really is so much to learn and live for !!

Hi, thanks pando, I’d dispute a lot to live for. I think people who have children may think that but as I don’t and think the world is going to hell in a racing car I would much prefer an option of assisted dying. I think all of us as we get older can face the prospect of dementia or worse, less mobilty etc less able to do things we’ve always enjoyed are we just being kept alive for the sake of it.

I hear you. Methinks spend some outdoor time and listen to the birds… let the world go to hell, but you can say some prayers and perhaps go to heaven with your assisted dying (been there). You’ll figure it out, otherwise you wouldn’t even reply to me. You’ve a lot to live for. Go get !!!

good luck, Roland
