I had a mini-stroke about 2 months ago which temporarily affected my right side peripheral vision. I now have migraine type flashing on and off during the day although I did not suffer from migraine before.
I have no other physical effects so consider myself to be very lucky. I wondered if anyone else has or has had the same and how long it lasted? My consultant suggested it was my brain rewiring itself!
I have something similar which only started post stroke. The Specialist Doctor called it hemenopia. For me this presents as what I describe as a kaleidoscope and it can occur in different parts of my visual field at different times. It is not permanently there but does come on periodically and typically lasts around 20-30 minutes.
My optician says it is not in the eyes but it is ‘‘behind the eyes or in the brain’’. It is usually triggered by bright light or flashing lights. If the sun is strong I wear polarising sunglasses to reduce the risk. I cannot view flashing images.
Hi @dmp and welcome to the forum. Sorry you’ve had cause to join us but you’ll find a friendly bunch here.
I get flashing lights at night time but they are mainly white ones. I was told its my brain too. Perhaps try turning down the brightness on any devices you use. I think you can also put blue light filters on…just dont ask me how.
Hopefully, if its your brain rewiring they will reduce in time for you.
Hi @dmp it sounds like you had a lower right cerebellar ischemic stroke!
I was told by A&E consultant that from tests and CT scan it was a mini stroke and referred me to the TIA unit after numerous tests including MRI it was confirmed I actually had cerebellar ischemic stroke like you I get exactly the same symptoms also!
My stroke specialist said to me a stroke is a stroke regardless!
Its basically a wake up call mine was smoking for 35yrs 20 pd stopped last August when I actually had my 2 strokes.
But like you I don’t have severe symptoms only headaches and balance and the odd eye issues but I’ve had my eyes checked and I good just prescribed reading glasses.
what your experiencing is recharge of your brain,
I’m living a normal life.
I wish you well.
you’ve got this

I’ve had Aura migraines for many years and I understand those with migraines are more prone to stroke.
I still have them, but with no pain. I didn’t worry about them and Boom I got an ischemic stroke last August affecting my right side.
The aura is a shimmering curved light in one or both eyes, kind of psychedelic.
I’ve had this phenomenon for some years, not sure whether I had it prestroke but have visits from it quite often. It has been explained as a headache which seems realistic. It doesnt interfere with my vision and at its worse is only a nuisance. It gets bigger and bigger and eventually just vanishes. Its impossible to forecast.
This picture is the nearest I can get to describing it.
