Lengthening of Tendons

Hi, not been on here of late had huge changes in my life, but bouncing back or trying to minus the bounce  .
Has anyone undergone surgery for Lengthening of the tendons? I had this operation done just over 3 weeks ago in two of my fingers and my thumb!, I was offered it after seeing hand surgeons in orthopaedic trauma and fracture. Basically I have been receiving Botulinum toxin injections in my hand and arm for over 20 years to help reduce muscle spasms caused by dystonia and stroke, whilst these injections worked they were never lasting the the course of say 13- 15 weeks mines would run out and I could not always be seen quicker. My neurologist referred me to the hand surgeon specialist whom after many consultations decided that Lengthening the tendons would be an option to help reduce the dystonic muscle spasm and tightness.
I am only 3 weeks out of surgery and wearing a splint all day every day with my hand arm in fixed position! I go next week to get scar massage therapy and physio to help exercise it, I can feel a massive difference all ready my hand is more relaxed and I am or would have been due Botox injections. It’s early days yet recovery can take up to six months but I remain optimistic and a slave to this rigid regime of a splint. think after 21st I am only to wear the splint at bed time? Anyways was intrigued if anyone else has had this surgery or experienced anything?

I haven’t had this done but it sounds like it may be a great improvement for you. The early difference you describe is definitely encouraging. Really hope it works well for you.

@Mrs5K Thanks so much it’s very early days but I am encouraged about the change. I was so scared in doing the surgery as huge risks involved but the surgeon only done two fingers and my thumb as didn’t want to do them all in case there was to much relaxation of the fingers and my whole hand being to relaxed. If after months its successful and I no longer need Botox injections She thinks I might can get more done, but I am awaiting outcome of this procedure thanks for response hope your in good health !
