My closest friend has Marfan’s syndrome and has aortic root dilatation, he’s had open heart surgery twice and had a plastic aortic valve inserted. He is six foot seven. He lives a comparatively regular kind of life with weekly check-ups for his condition, he is on Warfarin. He is in his fifties. He worked in social care for about twenty years, was made redundant and is now a postie!
I mention this because sometimes it is beneficial to hear of others who have faced the same thing. It can help salve anxiety.
Hi @Rups, I appreciate your reply thank you. I have read about Marfans when looking online. I’m only 5’4” so I’m guessing I don’t have that! I guess I will have a number of tests once I get my appt through from Cardiology.
I hadn’t really thought of me having any particular heart issues as I’ve generally been well until my mid/late 50’s. However there have been heart issues in the family, my father died aged 47 of a coronary thrombosis and my older brother has suffered from AF for a number of years and has recently had a pacemaker fitted. Not sure about grandparents.
It’s good to hear your friend has come through a number of hefty procedures and now as a postie is no doubt getting his steps/exercise in, Thanks again
The NHS app is great for getting results but can also lead to some anxieties. You could always have a chat with your gp about what it all means whilst you wait your cardiology appointment. I have done that a few times after getting hospital letters and not really knowing what they mean. Hope your appointment comes through soon.
Thank you @Mrs5K, I’ve emailed the Stroke consultant who requested the scans and asked a number of questions with regard to the results so hopefully they will get back to me whilst I’m waiting for my cardiologist appt.
My own surgery seem reluctant to comment on test results that have been requested outside of the surgery ie A&E or stroke clinic. I guess everyone has their own specialism so they don’t want to say the wrong thing. Thanks for your suggestion though. Hope you are keeping well x
I imagine the stroke consultant will get back to you. It’s a shame your GP won’t comment on results etc. I found mine to be very helpful in explaining things which helped put my mind at rest until I could see the relevant specialist.
I’m doing ok thanks. Hope you’re as ok as you can be too xx
Not heard from cardiology which I believe can take months so I’m guessing there is no urgency which is good.
I have however had another letter from the Stroke clinic saying please don’t worry about the finding of the aortic root dilatation, which was an incidental finding and unlikely anything to do with the cause of my TIA.
Healthy eating/Weight loss continues and I am walking further with our cockapoo each day which is all positive!
oh yes and I had amazing results from blood test checking on cholesterol and liver function (3 months after starting statins and Ramipril) overall cholesterol down from 5.7 to 3.7 with LDL down from 3.3 to 0.8 which I am pleased with
