Huperzine A

I’ve recently been taking the supplement Huperzine A, which seems to have calmed and focussed my brain a little. it’s also called Chinese Club Moss, wondering if @pando has any thoughts on it. Now, it could just be a placebo but I had read some Chinese academic studies that it can possibly help with post-stroke depression but also is a very safe supplement to take and has other cognitive benefits relating to brain function. It is commonly administered as part of treating Alzheimer’s disease. It’s only been a week taking this supplement and even if it is a placebo, I’m happy with that too, but considering it’s a fairly inexpensive supplement and there have been clinical studies behind its use, I would be interested in any feedback from our lovely forum members. Any thoughts anyone?

Interesting. I just saw my Chinese Dr this evening, but I’ll ask him about it next week, Rups!

I’ve never heard of it but sounds interesting. Keep us updated.

@Rups

Tonight I asked my Chinese Doctor about Huperzine-A ; we had to find the Chinese name for it ; he said it is used in lung infections and inflammation. He uses it himself. In Chinese it is known as “Tower with 1000 floors”

This nickname likely comes from the appearance of the Huperzia plant (石杉, Shíshān), which has a layered, tower-like growth pattern. It could also metaphorically represent the cognitive-enhancing effects of Huperzine-A, as if helping the brain “climb” to higher levels of function.

All the best, Roland
