How to sleep well - For anyone, not just stroke survivors

There are few posts on this forum already on the subject of sleep. They have tended to focus on sleeping problems experienced by stroke survivors and so I am creating this post as a general “How to sleep well” for anyone. Getting enough quality sleep is a problem for many and the causes may also be many.

This post is also intended for stroke survivors to be reassured that sleeping or lack of may not be just stroke related.

On a personal level, it has to be said that my Mum who is a stroke survivor hasn’t necessarily had issues with sleeping as described by some members, but she has occasionally had days / weeks when she has not been able to sleep. These reasons have been identified/diagnosed by family as being caused by

  1. She sleeps during the and she sleeps quite a lot and so at night she has already been “sleep refreshed” during the day and so needs less or no sleep and so does not sleep much at night
  2. There were a few weeks when she was troubled by stomach lining/internal bleeding and/or acid reflux and so could not lie in bed and so again unable to sleep (in bed at night - she sits out in a chair during the day).

Now here’s the really interesting bit. Watch this video and see if you too can sleep well

Michael Mosley, RIP, he died comparatively young. I am of the opinion that as long as one gets the sleep cycle one needs and the quality is decent, then all is well in the land of nod.
