How the body feels

Hi @EmeraldEyes It sounds as if you have made great progress. Thank you for flagging up heavy leg syndrome and folic acid, I will look into it. Yes I am doing lots of exercises re balancing, though not getting up and down from floor. I have orthotics in my shoes, which have made a difference. Thanks for your input. Caro

Thanks @Rups . I would like to get to a point when daily struggles do not monopolize. To name a couple of simple pleasures - I do take delight in hearing the birds sing and the reflection of light through the various prisms I have making colourful rainbows. move around the room

Hi @IreneFC sounds as if you have really made important the fact you are a stroke survivor and not a victim. An important distinction. As you say, I get the feeling that this Forum does this

Hi @Shorn Yes, I have talked and worked with physio over this. It was much more deep seated than I realized.

Remapping my arm ; this is a totally Alien (Chinese) technique ; there’s nothing like it in the UK or in China anymore (it is old school). I’ve been told I’m the only person in the UK to have had this done. I don’t mention it on my channel, because there is no frame of reference and nothing to compare it to, so no way I can get the significance across. There are downsides too, namely you cannot remap the somatosensory cortex. Anyway, the procedure of remapping is a lost art. Maybe I’ll do a clip on it one day…

@pando thanks for the !ink. You have done a lot to share your own recovery, I am sure this is helpful to others. This Chinese mapping sounds as if it has a lot of similarities to the practice of visualization? Also I note you are a musician, has this helped you? I am a visual artist and my son bringing in a pen and sketch book on the first day in hospital, and instructing me to draw every day I think helped, and does help in my recovery.

Thanks ; I do hope to help others, even though that is very hard to do. It requires meeting each other half way.
Intent / visualization / imagination are all key tools for success !
An Artist ! I’m honoured ! Here’s a watercolour I did “Mother and child with Seagulls” Early Morning Spasms - #7 by pando
That’s what I hope is in store for me once I settle down
Can you post a drawing you did ? I’d love to see !!

Nice chatting, ciao, ciao, Roland

One of the benefits of regularly posting progress on this forum is that it provides a way to measure progress and easy access to that timeline.

Hello….i am 67 and am 14 months post stroke and I feel much the same as you. I feel I can cope with the difficulty of walking…my leg also feels like a sack of potatoes and the drop foot is the biggest problem but I can walk to a fashion with my stick…not very far it’s true but at least I can…I do leg exercises each day and hope for better in the future.
My challenge is having no use at all of my arm ….none at all which makes every day chores so difficult….my arm just feels like a dead weight. It makes me feel bad that I don’t do more to try and improve this but I seem to have lost hope that my arm could work again even a bit….I don’t know if I am being defeatist or just realistic. I am very interested to hear about other people and how they cope with the loss of arm and hand use. Anyway I hope you can regain some confidence after your fall and that today is a good day for you. Also….i think it’s amazing that you play table tennis albeit not quite as you used to…but good for you! All the best…janis

@Janis Never give up hope and never stop trying. Maybe look at @pando who got his 100% paralysed arm working. After stoke we are back to being like small children and they never give up they try and try and again until they accomplish what they want. I wish you well :four_leaf_clover:

Hi Janis, i guess we must keep the hope alive. one thing I have noticed in my short time in being part of this community is that the impact of a stroke affects people in varying timescales and in different ways. I second @IreneFC who suggested looking @pando who got his paralized arm moving. I wonder too if visualization is an aspect of the Chinese method he describes? I think that visualization certainly helped me regain movement in my arm. A granddaughter was born a few weeks before the stroke hit me, and I found myself thinking how young babies/children have to learn to navigate the world and comparing her development, with my new reality of living with effects of stroke. She is now running around and I am not! Keep hoping and going. C
