Hiring a PA, all advice welcome

I’m coming to the end of the support from my brilliant community team and need to find a PA/Care Company for an hour in the mornings.

A lovely lady from the council came for a chat last week about the help I need and that was quickly followed up by an email from the Brokerage Team with two bids from different companies who could meet my requirements.

Having checked out both companies on the Care Quality Comission website, I preferred the more expensive company which would have totally wiped out my PIP, even if I’m upgraded to the higher rate of care when I get a decision, so now I’m stumped.

I don’t think I could currently handle being an employer at the moment and a friend of mine who has a PA says HMRC are a nightmare.

So I don’t know what to do now. Some mornings I am up before my carer gets here and all she needs to do is help with my shoes or make my bed. Other days - like today - I couldn’t do much at all for myself, so needed a lot of help.

Is there any other financial help I could investigate? I’m just outside the threshold for help with the cost of care but my only income is PIP, so I’m in that tricky middle ground.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t know anything about PAs but try speaking to Citizens Advice as they will be able to advise on any financial help / other help you might be entitled to. They also have a benefits calculator on their website

You could also ring the Stroke Association helpline 0303 3033 100 who should be anle to point you in the direction of support.

Oh another thought. Do you have an Independent Living Centre near you. You could try them too.

Best wishes

Ann

Hi @Gaina

I agree with @Mrs5K, give our helpline a call. I’m sure they will be able to help you find what could be available for you. They have a wealth of knowledge!

Definitely give the stroke association a call

Thanks everyone :hugs: .

I shall contact CAB and my local SA co-ordinator (I don’t have the spoons for phone calls if I can send an email at the moment :rofl:).
