Help with communication aids

Mr friend recently had a stroke. I’m visiting this week and won’t fully know his need till I get there however his wife’s told me his speech is severely affected (almost non verbal) and has asked if I have any ideas on aids or apps that could help. He’s extremely fatigued so probably wont have the capacity to tap out lengthy messages, I was wondering if there are any apps that could help?

Keen to get peoples real world experience rather than adverts. Appreciate its a bit woolly with me not knowing his need 100% but I’d rather have a shopping list I can tailor when I get there, rather than get there, assess then wait longer for ideas.

Many Thanks in advance.

@kaysaya Hi & welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of your friends stroke. It sounds like he has a great friend in you.

There are some books at this link that may be suitable. You might be able to buy them elsewhere. The link is just to give you a flavour of what’s out there.

There is nothing better than practice though. Get him to keep talking even if it doesn’t sound right. In time it’ll improve. Repetition is key.

Fatigue will probably impact a lot so it’s important not to overdo it too. Plenty of rest will be needed & should be encouraged as it’ll allow his brain to start repairing.

Best wishes to you & your friend.
