Just a quick one. Since having my stroke I’ve noticed that noises seem louder than they used to. Even when washing up I’m more sensitive to the clattering of the items been washed and put away. Has anyone else had this issue.
Oh yes this is an issue that I have too. Ever since I had my stroke my hearing has been very sensitive and I can’t cope with noises either things like knives and forks on plates or music in the background and lots of people chattering all send my brain into a complete spin. To help when I am out about I purchased some loop earplugs which help turn the volume down but still mean that you can hear conversations etc. Hopefully over time your sensitivity will reduce a bit.
Yes - the inner ear cannot focus (yes, it actually changes shape to do that) and send background clutter into the background. It’s well documented ; it’s called cocktail-party syndrome. It will improve.
Good luck, Roland
Me too, everything in the morning is extremely loud but as the day goes on I struggle to catch words clearly, come bedtime the Tinnitus starts up. The hearing lady at the hospital told me it’s because the messages to your affected side are on go slow, courtesy of the stroke, nice way to put it but it’s still infuriating .
Yes. That happened to me just after my stroke. It does become less of a problem with time, but clattering noises still put me on edge.
Aye, auditory overload, I believe quite common after stroke. I had it with specific sharp noises or clanging sounds. Though, any pervasive sound would trigger it. It has mostly gone now and I’m left to enjoy the hiss of tinnitus in its full glory.
