Hello @2026april - A warm welcome to the community. I haven’t had any hallucinations and don’t know anyone who has as a result of a stroke. I daresay there may be members of this forum who may well have experienced this on this forum.

This forum has quite a diverse membership of carers and stroke survivors with a membership of over 4500 and over 200 active members in the last seven days.

According to the Stroke Association website, a stroke can sometimes lead to hallucinations or delusions, and may happen in up to one in twenty people.

So you might be amongst the one in twenty. I don’t know how these figures work but potentially of the 200 active members 10 of those may have experienced hallucinations or delusions? But since we don’t know how many of the active members are stroke survivors, we can’t be sure. It might be 100 or it might be 50, we’ll just have to wait to see who pops up

All I can say is almost always someone will come along and say "Yes, I have experienced that … "

You can read a bit more about this here if you haven’t already done so.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi @2026april & welcome to the community. I haven’t had hallucinations since my stroke but I have had very vivid dreams / nightmares. It can sometimes be caused by vision issues - often if there is some sight loss but it is likely the part of your brain that was affected by your stroke. Hopefully someone will be along with much better advice soon.

Hi @2026april and welcome to the forum. I’m going to assume from your name that your stroke occurred in April this year. If that is the case, you are still very early in your recovery and there’s still a lot more to be made over 6 months or so. There is a lot of rewiring going on inside your head while signalling is being rerouted around the damage area of your brain.

Though I’ve never experienced myself, I know some do. But hopefully this will reduce/cease over the coming months as repairs are made.
How are you with sleeping? Are you getting any sleep or enough sleep? I ask this as lack of sleep can exacerbate the issue for.

If you type in hallucinations in the magnifying glass search bar of the forum, you’ll find quite a few posts mention the topic. I had auditory and visual hallucinations but nothing acute. I still sometimes have them, mainly movement and objects in my peripheral vision that are not there when I look directly and disassociation of sound. What type of hallucinations are you getting?

Hi @2026april

Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and the hallucinations you’re having. As others have mentioned, hallucinations can happen after a stroke. Do have a read of the information that @ManjiB has given, this may be helpful for you to help you to understand what’s happening.

I hope you’ll find this community helpful for your recovery. If you need anything whilst you’re using the Online Community, please don’t hesitate to tag me using the @ symbol and my username.

@bob.isle , up to when my mum died because of her stroke and ill health, she to had hallucinations. From what I read, stroke survivors can suffer hallucinations during recovery. Anyway, stroke recovery (no matter how bad it is) is marathon not a sprint. I speak as a former carer (30+yrs).
