Gratitude - Improve your Health & Wellbeing - Daily Journal

I have come across various pieces of information that suggest being grateful can be good for your health and well-being.

The idea is you write down up to three things you are grateful for each day. You can do this on paper (diary/journal) or electronically (notes or journals).

I am starting my journal here and if you like you can join me or if you prefer you can start your own personal journal.

Today, I am grateful my local supermarket fixed its chiller so I could buy my favourite full-fat milk. Now I can enjoy my cup of tea and make my home-made curd/yoghurt.

I used a journal to try to understand my anxiety after the TIA, classic problem solver mentality, but this idea feels much more positive and constructive. Mine today feels a bit like showing off, though - sorry about that. I’m on holiday with my family, sitting on the terrace of an apartment in Dijon enjoying breakfast in the sun. I couldn’t feel more blessed.

You have my permission, you can have your moment of joy. I will allow it.
(I am generous like that)

. . . but really?

Make the most of your good times.

Stroke showed us some very dark times.

If we can find some light, some laughter, something to look forward to, then I’ll grab it right now and so should you.

Thanks for sharing news of your blessings. It is good to be reminded that there are ups as well as downs.

Whatever the weather we have one another.

(I’ve been using this forum to map my path for the last few years, every now and then it is good to look back , put things in perspective and realise where, why and what I am now. I can recommend it. If you look in your profile you’ll discover that you can download an archive copy of your account activity and settings. )

This forum is a place where I have cried out in anguish, I’ve strutted around in pride, I’ve reported my successes, I’ve shared ideas, opinions, friendship. It has been a valuable part of my life since I came home from hospital after a stroke changed things.
My thanks go to the Stroke Association for providing this amenity and to the others who like myself meet up here each with our own idea of who we are and where we are going.

Mornin’ to you Bobbi, harimanjaro and ManjiB. I regularly count my blessings and reflect on bits of my life, good and bad. Like everyone else, I have had immense joy and the deepest depths of despair, but overall, here I am in my 81st year still enjoying my life. I think one of the things has got me through is the phrase ‘This too shall pass’. I’m not sure of its origin, (there are several) but I’m sure that someone may know.
Tears will wash away the sadness, but will also show our infinite joy of life. One thing I do, (as you may have noticed) is to remember the fun and happy experiences and share them in my writing. My today thanks go to all those who have produced the great music we share, and my recovery that allows me to cook the great Sunday lunch! Happy days all. Norma

Yes Bobbi, it’s the full works. Roast lamb, home made mint (from my garden) sauce, roast taters, parsnip, cauliflower, carrots, peas, thick onion gravy, there also might be a thimbleful of something alcoholic! No pud I’m afraid, but there’s ice cream in the freezer if one of us has the energy to move. I’d invite you all round, but I only have a small dining table, sorry. Best wishes. Norma

I’ll sit on the doorstep, Just pass me a knife and fork and a plated dinner. I’ll manage ok.

I do hope this dinner includes Yorkshire pudding. It would be a long way to travel with no Yorkshire pudding at the end of it.

I have a team member who suffers a lot of anxiety & I get her to write in her anxiety diary 3 positive things each day in the hope that over time she can focus on more of the good things in her life.

Mine today are being grateful for being able to have a proper shower today- it’s not always possible, happy that we can still enjoy a Sunday lunch (no roasts) even though the cooker is broken & happy to be watching some athletics

A nice restful today to help me face the challenges of work tomorrow.

Hi, When I had counselling with MIND a few years ago, the counsellor gave me a good tip for when you are feeling down. Use a jar or a tin and when something nice happens to you write it on a small note and fold it up and put it in the jar/tin. Then when you are feeling down take a note out of the happy tin/jar to cheer yourself up and remind yourself that things are not all bad.

We are just off out to a local restaurant for Sunday lunch. One for my happy jar .

Regards Sue

This is a wonderful tip Sue - thank you for sharing
I am using my jars to make sauerkraut, but I will reserve one for the notes.

Hope you enjoyed your Sunday lunch at your local restaurant

Hello all, enjoying a week down in the west country near Bristol.
I am grateful to the lovely guy who helped me with the postcode for the emergency prescription online form I had to complete because I forgot some of my meds.
I am grateful for my sister in law who always makes us feel so welcome when we visit.
I am grateful that the sun is once again shining after the rain.
