Some will remember my catastrophic loss of varifocal glasses which has had me living in a visual spin for three challenging weeks. I noticed my convergence, when fatigued, is all screwy, this has lead me to writing things like didn”t instead of didn’t and another time thought someone had deposited into my bank account £5000 when it was £50.00, although fifty quid is still pretty good. These are just trifling annoyances, but the real exhaustion is when I get fatigued and I get dull throbbing headaches from just looking around. I have a magnifying glass in every room but being without my glasses means I have difficulty with saccadic tracking and visual response as blurred vision and nystagmus gets the better of me: in the last three weeks I almost knocked over a whole shelf of beers in my local supermarket, twice. The cashier, both times, gasped and held her breath.
But … I paid a ridiculous sum of money to get a new pair and as much as I must suck up the cost because I wasn’t able to claim on the NHS this time, it has given me a huge amount of visual relief. I am now shopping around for a chain, so if they ever part with my face, they are leashed to my body.
Glasses looking good @Rups and more importantly the shop will be grateful you aren’t going to trash their beer supply . Glad your visual issues have been relieved somewhat too.
Aye, without them I have very unreliable peripheral reflexes. I hope these look adequate because I had to drill deep within my pockets, being careful not to wake Smaug , in order to pay for my silly error of judgement.
Aye, it’s going to take 1-2 weeks for me to get used to them. They are causing a bit of chaos when I walk around but good for reading. I think what I paid is pretty standard for high street spec ware, but I no longer have access to the bigger chains anymore. Apparently, the higher you go in price, the better quality of lens, and this was a factor as I’ve previously had the lowest of the low and just put up with the difference.
I always opt for a mid range lens. Partly because the top end are prohibitive cost wise. I was very relieved to find my prisms cost no extra when I recently got them added to my lenses. I was expecting them to be very expensive so was pleasantly surprised.
