Getting in/out of car

Tomorrow we have two physios coming for third lesson on how to get my husband safely in and out of the car. Transferring from wheelchair.

We are so hoping to be able to go out for a drive soon. He has not been out since Nov apart from being brought home in Feb by ambulance.

Fingers crossed it goes well tomorrow.

@Trisha2 & husband

My first try at getting in and out of my occupational therapist’s car was a success.
I had asked if it was a possibility and she immediately said that yes we could try it right away.
She was very helpful, encouraging and supportive.
I added it to my list of wins and over time managed to achieve much more.

Best wishes to you both as he does this.
Every step, win or lose, takes you in the right direction.
May your successes be many.

My fingers are crossed for you too.

Hi Trisha, great news that you have reached this point in your husband’s recovery. This will open so many doors for both of you.

I can clearly remember my first attempt at getting into a car with the help of a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist, which I am pleased to say went well.

Best wishes to both of you, I hope it goes well and your husband enjoys his trip out into the big wide world.

Thanks for all your lovely comments.

Two physios came and my husband got in and out about 6 times. He cannot stand unaided so we had to get the wheelchair tight up to the car. They said we need to practice a bit more but they are 80% happy that we know what we are doing. We agreed because we do not want him back in hospital!

We have physio assistants coming next who work under physios instructions so we will practice with them.

A glorious day to be working on this outside though. :sun_with_face:
