Fatigue v older age

The familiar topic of fatigue crops up a lot for us, but for us more ‘mature’ folks the aging process also takes its toll. Ladies don’t divulge their age, but before my stroke I was still quite active and enjoying life totally. (Shall we admit I am an octogenarian), I never can quite decide if it might my age that had slowed me as well as the stroke? I also have to admit that due to lack of exercise I have gained weight which cannot be helpful either. What do other of our more ‘mature’ members think?

@Norma751

I’m well into my seventies and am not ready to give up yet. But hills are getting steeper and it is further to the other side of the road.
We’ve not done so bad so far.

Anyway, no matter what the number, we should not be measured by our age unless it is to see it as an accomplishment a mere marker along the trail.

I’ll just move a little slower, a bit more carefully, but I will . . .

keep on keepin on

Norma 751. I often wonder the same thing when I suddenly eake up in the middle of the afternoon and realise Ive been asleep for half an hour! I too was fit and active almost 3 years ago before my stroke. My walking consists of me hobbling around with my stick and I know that my age is against me so is this as good as it gets? I think it very probably is which is really very depressing. Janet

I’m 66 and yes we all slow down with age, but the fatigue and trauma of a stroke adds to it (I think?)
My age is getting older my mind is younger my body can’t keep up but I’m determined to not be beat. I’ve got gastroenteritis at moment so that zapping me of energy too.
I think if I tried to go up a hill I’d rally back on me bum :joy: let’s just never give up or give in, yea to falling asleep unexpectedly

Ooh sorry to hear about the tum Sue1958. What a horrible time to have that, especially in this weather. Much sympathy for you. I agree that the age and the body don’t talk to each other in my case either. Wash the kitchen floor? No bother! Wait while I’ve had half an hours kip please! Get well, lots to drink and a bit of TLC. Norma

I turn 80 this year and thinking exactly the same as you. I was twice a week at the gym before and now struggling to do much. And putting weight on, I was a target weight at slimming world before and now I can’t even balance on the scales. Plenty of fruit and veg, avoid bread as much as you can. Low fat cheese and other dairy,. It’s a battle. I have a cross trainer in the garage and can’t even get on it, but I will persevere.
