Good morning fellow strokers. I’m struggling with statins since my stroke. So much so my GP suggested I stopped taking them for eight weeks and see what we’re left with. It’s the join pain
.
I went to see my stroke consultant las Monday and she wanted me on something so suggested Ezetimibe 10mg. I’ve been on them a week and have started with pain in my neck and shoulders.
Has anyone else tried these and if so thoughts please
@Pisceslady2023 i was on this too, but found i got very tired and fatigued. i stopped them for a couple of weeks until my gp said i should take it. so i did and low and behold same symptoms again. i stopped it again i am seeing my consultant in October so will discuss then, as it’s made no difference to my cholesterol
Thanks chris67 for your input.
I’d rather not be on statins at all. None have suited me so far
My cholesterol is 4.2 so not exactly high but my stroke consultant said regardless of what it is she wants it lower.
I’m having similar issues as you’re having. I’m wondering if to take them alternate days but if they haven’t made a difference with your cholesterol maybe I’ll be the same.
Not sure what the answer is
My gp suggested breaking the pill in half and having it twice a day, this made it worse. Spent a whole day in bed. My consultant wants my levels to around 1.4 but it sticks at 2.2 even after taking ezetimibe for a couple of months, I’m also on Atorvastin 30 mg once a day
Morning, when you’re on atorvastatin too it must be difficult to know which tablet is doing what. I’m just on Ezetimibe and struggling.
I hope you have some luck sorting it out and thanks for getting back to me.
I was on both, Atorvastatin is the usual one we are put on Ezetimibe is meant to be a slow release tablet, it made no difference to my levels and I tried it for roughly 5 months.
I was out on atorvastatin from the start then Pravastatin but not good on either hence the Ezetimibe
Hi @chris67 . Im having trouble with cholesterol. I took atorvastatin and rosuvastatin but stopped all together because of side effects on muscles and energy. Tried ezetimibe very close to stopping statins (July 2024) but side effects were still present: fatigue, muscle aches, low energy etc, so stoped all and tried some habits, lowered meat, saturated fat, fewer eggs, introduces tofu and it worked, my cholesterol went down to “moderate”. which was fine for my GP for a while. Muscle aches went down, fatigue was better, Started to get better at gym, even I think I went to far and had a couple of fatigue episodes which resolved in a couple of days. So in September this year my GP wanted to try again ezetimibe just to take my cholesterol dow to safe levels, and I thought well I was a bit fragile back then, its been over a year and a half since my stroke (caused by trauma to the neck) si lets do it. After a week I started feeling head numb again, joint and muscle aches. Two weeks down it was worse so I decided to go to a priority medical appointment through my insurance, just to see if there is something to pay attention to. They told me to stop ezetimibe so I did almost 4 weeks ago but still some symtphoms are presente, and is something like feeling drained of energy. It gets better with eating but glucose levels are great, get worse if stressed or after exercise (Ive been gaining muscle and weight back, the only sequel I have is being sensible to movement since my stroke was in the cerebellum and what I got was terrible vertigo), it’s like stamina is just drained. Reading online I found about mitochondrial function which can be affected by statins and sometimes ezetimibe. How long it took for you for the side effects to go after stoping ezetimibe?
Hi. It didn’t take long for my symptoms to go. I too suffered with a lot of motion sickness. I was referred to my local hospital who gave me an injection called inclisaran first one last 3months the second injection is on the 3rd month then next one is on the 9th one, I only had 2 injections as I had an allergic reaction which caused my epilepsy to give me seizures, so I have stopped altogether. I am also under a cardiologist who is happy with my cholesterol levels, but the injection might help you, as my case is different like all strokes are different. In terms of fatigue I still have it, but for me it’s a mixture of my stroke and epilepsy medication alongside medication for when I had my heart attack two months after my stroke. Hope that helps, if you need more help just message
Chris
