Hello - I had a stroke behind my left eye 4 months ago and lost complete vision in that eye. Diagnosed by Retna Specialist as Central retinal vein occlusion and Neovascular glaucoma. Getting lazer treatment and injection every month. Hard to navigate life with one eye. I am. 84 years old, female.
Hi @Dulcinea14 & welcome to the community. Sorry you’ve had an eye stroke. That’s a big deal for you having to adjust to one eye.
For a completely different reason one of my colleagues has recently lost the sight in one eye & she is really struggling with her spatial awareness & keeps walking into things or missing the surface when putting things down etc. She has been told that she will get used to it in time and hopefully you will too as your brain makes its becessary adjustments.
Hope you’re doing ok otherwise.
Best wishes
Ann
I feel for you, I had a stroke in my right eye, and lost some sight in that eye. That was a couple of years before my main stroke which was 26/42 on the severity scale. It’s hard to lose precious abilities, but we must always be thankful for what we do remain in possession of.
Wishing you a speedy return to joy and happiness, ciao, Roland
Hi @Dulcinea14 just want to welcome you to the forum
I’m sure the navigation will get easier for you as time goes on. So don’t let it hold you back. In the meantime just keep your floors clutter free and furniture up against the walls to reduce your risk of falls and bumping into things
Hi, I had a Stroke in my left eye in October 2023 - combined venous and arterial occlusion. My symptoms started in head - very heavy, thick, fuzzy sensation - happened at work (I work in the NHS (non-clinical), but nobody recognised early symptoms as Stroke. I carried on as you do! A few days later the sight in my left eye went ‘pop’, just as the filament in a light bulb, no pain, no warning. My sight returned briefly but then ‘went again’ a few days later. By this time, I was at Moorfields having treatment. Now, nearly a year on, getting by, still not back at work, feel ‘blocked’ on the right side of face, neck and particularly ear. Awaiting CT scans. I wonder if anybody else within the forum who has had similar symptoms to me. When I go to the hospital and tell them my symptoms I’m told it’s physical trauma of the stroke. Any thoughts welcome.
Hi @Alice73 and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear about your stroke. I had a different sort of stroke so no specific advice but hopefully others will be along to help you soon.
Hope you get your scans soon.
Best wishes
Ann
Hello - Hope things are getting better. My eye stroke was just a few months ago and as soon as it happened I called my ophthalmologist who immediately sent me to the retina specialist who examined me and said I had a Central retinal vein occlusion and Neovascular glaucoma and said I should go to the ER immediately. I was in the hospital for 5 days and they did every test imaginable. The stroke only affected my eye, however I am totally blind in my left eye and my sight will never return in that eye. I never had glaucoma but now I have neovascular glaucoma in that eye. I see my specialist 2 times a month - once for and injection in the eye and the next visit for a later treatment and am taking eye drops 2 times a day. Not easy to live with and I just sold my car because I felt very uneasy driving because of no peripheral vision on my left side and very poor depth perception.
Let us know how you are doing on this site. Insist on getting CAT Scan, MRI and all the necessary tests.
Dear Dulcinea14, I am so sorry to hear about your sight - it is very difficult to adjust to. My peripheral vision on left side is scant. The sight in my left eye is partial - I cannot make out whole words, but parts, not detail. I understand what you are going through and are trying to adjust too - it’s scary and not easy. I am so pleased that we connected - when I tell people about eye stroke, they look at me blankly.
Unfortunately there is nothing that can restore my sight in my left eye. I have asked my retina specialist many times if there is any chance my sight in the eye might come back and he has said many times it will not. I had a very serious Central Retinal Vein Occlusion and in addition to my loss of sight I also got Neovascular Glaucoma in that eye from the stroke, and am getting injections and lazer treatment in that eye to get rid of the Neovascular Glaucoma. It is not the same Glaucoma that most people get.
