Following on from the ‘my story’ post I did I submitted the various forms to the court of protection (COP)to get a decision that will allow me to start claiming and managing my wife’s deferred benefit pension.
As I’m going via COP and on the presumption that they decide in my favour (I see no reason they wouldn’t) then one thing I will need to do is track how the money is used.
To that end, I am looking for a simple tracker or similar to enter what we’ve done with the money, things like:
hair care
chiropodist
milage claims for travel to/from the care home
etc
If it also has the capability for a receipt to be scanned in, or added as an attachment then so much the better.
The only one I have heard of is the Emma Budget App which I used briefly when saving up for my moped, it allows you to store receipts to transactions and it is linked to your bank account(s).
As Deputy for Mum, I did not use any expense tracking tools. I just kept written notes on “significant” spends as the CoP does not (at least for me they did not) require accountability for every penny spent.
They do appoint a supervisor who you can contact for help.
So for example, when I bought any aids such as exercisers or special accessories I made a note in the diary and kept the receipts in a shoe box.
Once a year, I had to complete a Deputyship report that included everything I did in my role as deputy and this is an online form which I updated throughout the year, though you can do it when it becomes due as long as you keep track of things.
For my type Deputyship (I don’t know how they vary) they did not need details of small spends e.g. below £100 but anything above had to be explained.
Whilst I did not use a tracker, I have seen simple trackers that are based on Microsoft Excel or Googlesheets (I like to use freeware software when I can) and so I expect these would have worked for me, but pen and paper and a shoebox did the trick for me
