Edinburgh-based Opportunity to Participate in Evaluation of a Robotic Stroke Rehabilitation Coach
A research team at Heriot-Watt University are looking for adults with a stroke-related arm impairment to attend rehabilitation sessions led by a robotic coach to assess whether these might improve progress alongside existing physiotherapy sessions.
Carrying out regular rehabilitation exercises can improve recovery from stroke, but can also be difficult to maintain. We are investigating whether sessions with a robotic coach between regular physiotherapy can improve motivation and exercise completion.
Over two sessions the robotic coach will guide you through 15-30 minute rehabilitation sessions involving movement of your arm(s) and upper body. These can be completed whilst seated. You will be asked to complete questionnaires between sessions and have the chance to ask any questions.
We are looking for adults over 18yrs old with a stroke-related arm impairment in one or both sides and have achieved a score of > 15 in the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI).
You will need to be able to travel to the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Campus (EH14 4AS) twice before 11th July, with travel expenses provided up to a maximum of £27.
If you are interested in taking part or have any questions please contact Martin Ross at mkr30@hw.ac.uk or by calling him on 07851442325.
