Hi all,
Does anyone know of any Dysarthria groups online (zoom etc)?
I can find plenty of Aphasia groups but none for Dysarthria? Even though Dysarthria affects more people worldwide?
Can you help?
Best Wishes

@Hayeam as someone disabled by stroke (my disability affects my mobility and dexterity) I found that there are possibilities if we seek them out and make an effort to make them work.
I know this is a bit “out there” BUT have you thought about attempting to put a group together yourself?
I know someone in a similar situation who runs her own Whatsapp group. Her group members are affected by a variety of disabilities caused by stroke. They communicate about their lives on an informal level using text and photographs.
She is very vocal using text communication. She is making progress with speaking too and regularly attends a Zoom type meeting.
I am sure that text based communication is a great start, keeping the spirit alive and mind active.
Online Zoom meetings can be combined with texting opening up all sorts of possibilities.
Face to face meeting can be daunting but it is worth making an effort.
There is help to be had if you want to give it a go.
You could contact some of the services on the Speech Network Site, it seems many online communities bundle dysarthria and aphasia together, despite their differences. As @Bobbi says you could fill the gap and start your own group, or see if Facebook or other large social networks have pages for dysarthria.
They all tend to come under the umbrella of Aphasia as more often than not most stroke survivors have more than one area of affected speech. So don’t dismiss any Aphasia groups, that just an umbrella over all speech conditions/issues ![]()
