Driving Questions

Hello all, my husband had a stroke July 2024.

He made a slow recovery and by the time the community stroke team finished there time with him he wasn’t quite up to driving either physically or mentally so they suggested when ready he should do a Driveability assessment.

His driving license was due to renew this January 2026 so we just did an online renewal application in November when contacted. We heart absolutely nothing and by the time we remembered to check the application online it was not available as it was just over the ten weeks.

No letter, no license, nothing.

Now we understand that to do the Driveability assessment he will need some sort of provisional license given by DVLA to do the on road section assuming he passes the first steps at the centre.

Does anyone know anything about this please.

I can’t seem to find any information but am surprised the DVLA did not write to even tell him his license was finished.

If we now check online it says he has no license.

Any info about the provisional or anything gratefully received.

Thank you.

Hi @elljay1 I don’t know if you have searched the forum but I have put a link below where similar has been discussed previously. Within this post are links to other discussions on driving which may help.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Thank you Mrs5k

I can’t even find my original post now  seem to have forgotten how to use the forum … been absent for a while.

Off to try and refresh my fatigued brain and read the posts you kindly offered up to me.

@elljay1 It is everyone’s own responsibility regarding their driving license, not DVLA. Have you contacted DVLA to explain your circumstances to them? I wish you well for the future :revolving_hearts:

Thank you, yes we have told DVLA about the stroke.

Just never had any contact with response.

@elljay1 You have to keep in contact regarding the license. I use to work for HMRC and everyone thought HMRC are responsible for you paying tax. Each individual is responsible for themselves. I also did Debt collecting for them. So for the license, chase it.

Thank you, we have emailed and written.

Hopefully they will get back to us eventually but from other posts it seems they do at least respond and five months seems a long time to be waiting.

@elljay1 Don’t compare what other people got, its you, just concentrate on you. I got a blue badge instantly, but some people had to wait. Just look after you, :revolving_hearts:
