Dreaming

I have an interesting story and I don’t know where to put it, so I’ll try here and see what happens…Yesterday in the MSN column I read a letter from a lady who had died three times and recovered. Her story was so similiar to the three occasions that happened to me I’d like to get in touch with her to discuss them but have been unable to actually make contact, so here is my story.

When I was about 16 I was living at home with my widowed mother. One Saturday morning I woke but couldn’t move. I could hear the sounds of neighbours starting cars and doing other household noises that proved to me that I was still in the land of the living but as I investigated further I found I was about three feet above my bed and still in a horizontal position. I cant remember whether the blankets came with me but I was comfortably warm and in an unusual mood! My thoughts quickly decided I was dead and waited for some signal from the almighty to my future direction. This did not occur but I heard my Mother making breakfast noises in the kitchen and I found it amusing that she would come into my bedroom sooner or later and find me.

This never happened and I lay there still suspended in midair for about fifteen minutes and then slowly awoke back in my bed from what appeared to have been a dream. It was certainly the most beautiful dream I have ever had and I was annoyed to wake from it.

Twice more in my life the occasion started to occur again but stopped and returned me to life after just a few seconds. I would love to have the dream again.

In my life (I’m 96 now] I have read several stories from others who have had the same [or similiar] happenings but have never been able to contact them to discuss the occurrence.

Hello @Deigh

I’m sure we are in the wrong place but whether at the top of some sacred mountain, or deep underground in a bargain basement there is always opportunity and reason to communicate.

Our conversation might be trivial or deeply controversial, or perhaps about the quality and price of gum drops.

But, I believe your experience has parallels with my own. As for explanations, maybe the possible variety and differences will just cause confusion.

The grim reaper has tapped on my shoulder sufficiently frequently for me to realise that my understanding of life, death and where and who I am will never fall into nice neat categories.

If I told you I had seen a huge creature, that towered above me, had a crazy paving pattern tattoed all over and ate leaves with a blue tongue (see below) then you could be forgiven for accusing me of having a vivid imagination. I would up to a point agree but the creature I saw was as real as I and my imagination nevertheless is capable of intricate and involved acrobatics.

So, I was in my bed facing the wall.

I realised I had left the light on, could see everything, the wardrobe door, the shelf with my collection of books, the carpet and the bed I was lying in.

I cursed and rolled over and upright to stand and go put the light out using the switch next to the door.

However the room was dark. I was sat on the edge of my bed. I had been presented with a puzzle.

The simplest answer was that I had dreamed the room was lit. Moving to turn the light out had wakened me and left me wondering about what went on, or didn’t go on, while I slept.

I have had uncannily ‘real’ dreams, I have been locked into repetitive and frustrating experiences that only put themselves right when I finally awoke.

Despite the disability that is now a part of my life, I have walked, run, been places, that are today only a part of my world when I am asleep.

I’m not sure the Grim Reaper only drags one off to ‘whatever elsewhere’.
I think whatever it, she, he is, also likes to tease, provoke us with impossibilities, conundrums and things that will make you think.

Because of this I’m sure that

I’m as thick as two short planks,

and things will ever be so.
I’ll never work it out.

Thanks @Deigh for sharing, when we should be ignoring, speaking when we should perhaps be quiet.

This can only be an opportunity to set off in an entirely different direction.

Perhaps we will remain, ignored and in ignorance.
I wonder if we passed the test?

Mr.Bluetongue surrounded by leaf snacks. (As hinted about earlier in this thread)

I’m pretty sure that neither I nor a series of mysterious accidents were responsible for the creation of that multiplicity of whatever that is the experience we encounter asleep or awake.

Yes, Horatio, there is much more to all this than either of us have the capacity to fathom.

But we can dream and dream we do.

Fascinating response, thanks. I’ve been a heavy dreamer most of my life and most dreams are forgotten instantly but some dreams I have remembered all my life and that one comes under that capacity.

I also found I could occasionally effect dreams. At one time in my life I had a persistent dream over several nights where I was being attacked by an oversized bully. I managed to evade him somehow or other but eventually I got scared of going to sleep. I decided I would sleep with a gun under my pillow and shoot him next time we met.

My conscience objected to the thought of actually shooting someone but I reminded myself that it was only a dream and that night put it into action. To my utter suprised it worked and he never bothered me again.

Well, well well!

Whilst we’ve been ignoring this (as if we would - a red rag to a bull “This is a test - please ignore”), it seems an upgrade has been made with some new features. It’s either that or my eyes deceive me!

Nice one!

Hi @Deigh

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve moved this topic into a new space and named your topic ‘dreaming’. I hope you don’t mind the name of the topic! I didn’t want your post to get lost in a topic that people might not look at.

Hello Deigh,

Regarding recurring dreams, when I was a teenager, I had a cracker:I would wake up and find a large box at the foot of the bed and it was full of breasts. The task I was given was to sort them into pairs!!! I have often wondered what a psichyatrist (I just can’t spell that name !) would make of that, but worry because of s.36, MHA ! Over/

No wonder you have trouble sleeping @Deigh if you sleep with a gun underneath your pillow, I keep a handkerchief under mine.

A psychiatrist would probably say you have foolishly walked into a booby trap.

I have had this experience quite a few times and found it fascinating. I can see the room as clear as daylight with my eyes closed. I have had this while in rest and not asleep. It’s not just a regular phosphene, but as if my eyes are open and looking about.

When I think about dreams, I like to think that I lead a double life.

I have had some strange experiences in my life with three psychoses but on the dream front I once dreamed i was getting out of a window. i found myself outside the house I lived in as a teenager having actually climbed out of the window in my sleep. i should mention my sister thought i was baying at the moon in her sleep and ignored it.

A post like yours can be a stimulus to open doors, light lights and provide inspiration in a safe space.

Sometimes there are experiences that should be shared.

It is good to discover that some of what might appear, at first sight, strange is not so far out after all.

Any place, any time, there is much to be gained by all from sincere communication.

Anna, Have you any experience of dealing with faulty sites? I used STROKENET for some years and it is the main site that leads people to his site.

It was started by a man who had a serious stroke but still the knowledge to get something going and maintain it. When he died his widow took over the site but for the last few months while still showing on the internet it is not working correctly and newcomers are not able to join.

Can you take a look at it please?

Found it, it is called StrokeNet, but its address is actually under stroke board, and it doesn’t appear to have very much recent activity. I think it may be an Australian site. You can read Sue’s latest blog post here, she wrote it back in January of this year and talks about her recent health challenges. The most recent forum posts go back to last year, she may have disabled new registrations and just left the site as read only. I can see that you were very active on the site. Sue’s profile page is here, on it is her email address. It might be worth shooting her off an email and hope it doesn’t bounce. Good luck.

Thanks for that, I have tried to contact Sue without luck. Your explanation that it may be a read-only site sounds logical. Disappointing since stroke victims need contact with others.

Very disappointing, it looks like it was a lively and supportive community in its time. I took a look at the parent Stroke Network Inc web site which is in a state of neglect - I won’t link to it here as it appears to have been subjected to some low level hacking activity. It belongs to a non-profit in Maryland that hasn’t updated its registration since 2024.

The American Stroke Association has a support community. Maybe some of the Strokenet members can be found there, though it seems like a slim chance.

Hi Deigh and everyone else who has replied:-) This is my own story of my own near death experience which caused a whole lifetime of problems…

I was a young 19 yr old in the police force in the 70’s and on a traffic attachment training week. My last nightshift, 50 minutes from finishing our shift, the driver skidded around a bend. No seatbelts were worn then, and I remember it was like an old black n white movie - white and we skidded closer to a lamppost, black and then white again and we were closer to the lamppost. I think about it now and it feels like I had days to get out, walk around, get back in the car and wait for the crash. The car smashed into the lamppost and I was thrown towards the screen, my forehead smashing the glass, body following and then jerked backwards again with force back into the seat. I then saw a brilliant blinding light, an old man dressed in white with white hair and beard. He smiled at me and shook his head and in that instant, I was awake, screaming, holding my right eye as I felt it moving, blood pouring all over my hands. I had lost so much blood I was rushed to hospital, over 200 stitches in my forehead and eyelids and side of head. People would not let me sit by them in the bus because I scared them. I learned to understand that they didn’t understand. I have my own opinion who the man was that gave me my life back that night, and I appeared in the News of The World and in a book called ‘At Death’s Door’ in the 90’s. Do I believe there is something else or somewhere else after our days here? Absolutely!

Take care everyone
