My name is Blessing William, I am a stroke survivor. 19 December 2025 I had a severe stroke. The stroke left me in a vegitatative state and unable to speak. I was in ICU for a month, I had tracheostomy inserted. I had an Ng tube later a rig inserted on my tummy. The funny party of the whole thing is I did not know I couldnt speak I thought the insertion of the trachy is what is causing me not to speak. The realisation came when the nurse capped my trachy and asked me to say hello and I couldnt do it. Thats when I realised I couldnt talk. It came to me as a shock. I was paralysed both sides and couldnt lift up even a sheet. I was discharged from ICU after a month and went to respiratory ward because of the trachy. When the trachy was removed they moved me to the stroke ward. I was transfered to another hospital while on modified diet and fluids. I arrived at Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit using a hoist and I walked out of there. I am now independent indoors and assistance of 1 outside. I have been going to the gym but its cold these days and spent most of my time in bed.
Hi @beestrokesurvivor and welcome to our community. Sorry to hear of your stroke at such a young age. It sounds like you have made a remarkable recovery so far and I’m sure there is much more to come. Thank you for sharing your experience I’m sure it will inspire new stroke survivors who are just starting their road to recovery. I look forward to hearing from you as your road to recovery continues.
That’s some story you have shared with us. To go from a vegetative state to how you are now in a relatively short space of time (although probably didn’t feel that shirt to you) is truly remarkable. Perhaps you can share some of how you got there with us aa that will help many others on their journey.
