Dentist whilst in hospital

My daughter who is in hospital suffering from big stroke still being moved by hoist, we have just noticed one of her front teeth at bottom is loose
Mentioned it to hospital staff and they didn’t even know. So not much dental hygiene going on
They said that it would be very rare or take long time
After they done referral for treatment
Is this correct

A Stroke Ward is just about keeping a patient alive, then stabilising their condition until risks of a further episode are minimised.

Once this is achieved, which can take some time, the next step is moving out of the ward and home with some after care or to a facility offering physiotherapy or similar treatment.

The general health and well being of the individual is not a priority while the patient is at risk. In a Stroke Ward all the concerns relate to the survival of the patient. Other issues need to be addressed at a later stage, elsewhere, once safety and survival are assured.

I’m sorry it sounds so hard and clinical but if your daughter is on a stroke ward she is in grave danger and making sure she survives is a priority over all others. This is true of all patients on that ward and all resources are aimed at dealing with what is a difficult and threatening condition.

I do hope all the difficulties she experiences and which she faces are met and dealt with but at this time and in this place there will be priorities.

best wishes to your daughter and all who love her,
may your times soon be better and brighter.
There is reason to hope.
I had a stroke three years ago leaving hospital after two months on a stroke ward.
I was not cured but I continue to have a life with a future.
There is so much to hope for, so much to wish for, so much to strive for.
keep on keepin’ on

@Ceilidh I remember visiting the dentist after my stroke and saying to him my teeth had been neglected a bit as I’d been in hospital and got no help cleaning my teeth. he said thats normal when you’ve been in hospital. As @Bobbi says they focus on the immediate medical need and everything else gets left or you’re expected to sort yourself. Unless her tooth is causing her significant pain it is unlikely that they will do anything about it. I suspect they’ll be hoping that visitors do some teeth cleaning with their loved ones.

Best wishes

Affirming what @Bobbi and @Mrs5K have said. Its all about keeping all risks of stress to a minimum whilst she is on that ward. That’s why it can appear quiet and can be so very boring for some. Boring as it may be, that is what her brain requires just now.
