I’ve been doing some research and apparently the motor cortex is linked to to the audio cortex in the brain
Dancing to music helps people with brain damage to generate neuro plasticity in the brain and aids recovery, I’m trying this daily , so apart from a close dance with my wife it’s a positive experience to aid recovery, try it and see!
Very Interesting, I loved to dance before my stroke and will definitely give it a try. Not sure what I can do now qualifies as dancing . Don’t think I’ll be winning Strictly any time soon but if it aids my recovery, I’ll give it a go. Thank you for sharing that.
I like the idea of this and I’m sure it has benefits, I’ll have to give it a try.
I’m convinced that as time goes by, with the will to succeed, there will be small improvements over time.
I think you are setting yourself up for a disappointment if you think this is a route to obtaining a cure from the effects of stroke.
If you look at it as a means to lighten the mood and get a little enjoyment from life then conversely you could be on to a winner. It could be a route to better things.
I do everything to music! If I’m in the supermarket I walk to the beat of whatever happens to be playing, to keep my steps regular. Aquarobics is also to music. My favourite dance was the Salsa (before my stroke 11 years ago) and a couple of weeks ago I started to try the steps again. I managed the 15 minute warm up without falling over, but it was to a slow beat. I think, with practice I will improve. Music definitely helps.
Keep on doing your thing its amazing what the brain can do so maximising the possibilities for recovery can’t be bad plus having fun is great considering what we have all been through and suffered
I think music in any shape or form is hugely therapeutic. Whether you play, listen or dance to it, is is hugely beneficial to the general well being of any person.
I remember an early holiday to Spain. It was evening and it was so peaceful. Sitting on our balcony in the hotel looking over the countryside on the first night of our stay I remarked that a little music would be nice.
Below us was a club and at midnight “The Birdy Song” at extreme volume started up. It continued until around 4 am.
This was repeated at the same time every night for the whole of the two week holiday.
I atart all my physio sessions to music and as it’s in my home can go through my eclectic collection of CDs. There was a stroke dance class locally but closed due to funding. Good to read the research proving what I feel in my body mind.
