Contradictory Songs

Sorry for this random post but I was hoping that some people on this forum might be able to assist me

I like to set up play lists of random songs on my music streaming service

And I’ve decided to put one together with songs that contradict each other

Examples that I have thought of so far include Sit Down (by James)which contradicts with Stand ( By REM)

In addition Don’t stand so close to me ( the Police) which contradicts with Move Closer (Phyllis Nelson)

I hope that that the above makes some sense; and if anyone has any othersuggestions of pairs of songs where the titles contradict with each other then I’d love to hear them and I’ll think of you every time they come up on the playlist

The songs can be from any genre of music

Yes and before anyone asks; I probably do have too much time on my hands

@jonnyDee , how about Street Fighting Man and Satisfaction by Rolling Stones? A misnomer in Mick Jagger’s case. Also, News of the World (Mock the Week theme) by The Jam?

Street Fighting Man would go well against John Lee Hooker’s Peace Lovin’ Man.

@harimanjaro , Well spotted. I’m gutted I missed that link. Another one I’ve thought of: Everything Counts- Depeche Mode. Also, People are People (same band). Another misnomer in today’s world.

Sounds entertaining, it reminds me of the scene in Bedazzled where Dudley Moore appears on a Top of the Pops style show, singing Love Me and then Peter Cook, as Drimblewedge and the Vegetations, comes out singing a heartless and loveless pop ballad which then ends with the studio audience screaming and stampeding over Dudley to love mob Cook.

While not strict musical antonyms, here are my offerings;

  1. Keep Yourself Alive (Queen) plus Another One Bites the Dust (Queen).
  2. Doctorin’ The Tardis (Timelords) plus Star Trekkin’ (The Firm).
  3. Road to Nowhere (Talking Heads) plus End of the Line (Travelling Wilburys).
  4. Our Lips are Sealed (Fun Boy Three) plus Shout (Tears for Fears).
  5. Cars (Gary Numan) plus Bicycle Race (Queen).
  6. Funkytown (Lipps Inc) plus Ghost Town (The Specials).

Some excellent suggestions there! I particularly like the bob malty / Shaggy combo

Thanks for your time in coming up with your suggestions

One question for you; I’m going to pair up Ready to go by Republica with Stop; but do I go with the Sam Brown song stop or the Spice Girls? Song of the same name?

Gosh @wolfie yourself taking me back to my childhood with Grandad! It’s an excellent suggestion though so will be going on the list

One final question for you; I’m going to pair up Ready to go by Republica with Stop; but do I go with the Sam Brown song stop or the Spice Girls? Song of the same name?

Ready to go by Republica pairs nicely with Stop by Sam Brown

As bonuses, I can also offer you
Start by The Jam with Stop by Sam Brown
I’ll put you together again by Hot Chocolate with Tear me apart by Suzi Quatro
You angel you by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band with The Devil in Disguise by Elvis Presley.

Nah, just combine them in one with Should I stay or should I go? The Clash. :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

I wouldn’t have the Spice Girls anywhere near my playlist, so I’d go with Sam Brown.
