Community update - Privacy update

Hi everyone,

We recently sent you an email to let you know that we’ve updated our organisations Privacy Policy, including a section specific to the Online Community. Please take a moment to read it to stay informed about how we protect your information and how you can manage your own privacy settings.

We thought this would be a good time to update you on what the team have been working on in response to your feedback.

As a reminder, the Online Community is open to the public. People do not need to be signed in to read posts. People do need an account to reply to posts or to see people’s profiles. We make this very clear at the point of signing up and in our terms and conditions.

We know how important it is for you to feel comfortable when posting, so we’ve been testing new ways to give you more control over managing your privacy to improve your experience.

Here’s what we know

You can hide your profile

There’s an option available for anyone that wants further privacy from others. While your profile is already hidden from anyone not logged in, this option lets you keep it private from other logged-in users as well, giving you an extra layer of privacy.

If you would like to turn this setting on, please read our self-help article with a step-by-step guide on how to hide your profile.

Here’s what we tested

Anonymous posting

We heard that many of you would like the ability to post anonymously. Our team recently tested how this would work. We found that by allowing people to anonymise posts, we as staff would not be able to identify individual posters and follow up with any behaviour that was of concern. In order to maintain a safe environment within the Online Community, we will not be allowing anonymised posting.

What next

We’re continuing to look at other ways for you to post privately, and we’ll update you with our findings.

Thank you for sharing your ideas with us and please continue to do so by filling out our feedback form ; they help us understand how we can make your experience on the Online Community even better.

Many thanks,
Alex
