Cohabiting

My partner had a stroke last August. She was unable to go home due to her mobility. We both have separate properties (owned) so she’s come to stay at mine. Moving forward we would like to buy a home together but we are wondering how this would affect her benefits. She currently gets pip, esa, carers package and is applying for early pension on health grounds. I have savings over the threshold. We have never shared our finances. Does anyone know if living together would be beneficial or not?

@Fledge if either of you are claiming any means tested benefits then these would very likely be affected. Non means tested like PIP it would make no difference to.

Have a look at this link. You can check what your entitlements might be.

Definitely get some advice from somewhere like CAB so you know how you’ll be impacted if you move in together.

Hi everyone, the contributors on this forum never cease to amaze me. You are so helpful and informative to all of the stroke survivors seeking information and advice.

I am so grateful that I found this forum and recommend it to anyone I come across who has had a stroke.

A big thank you to all of you for sharing your wealth of information and for helping the people who may not have anyone close to help with all of the struggles we face every day.

I 'm sure I speak for all of us who have turned to all of you when things get tough.

Thanks again guys. Enjoy your weekend.
