Hi, I am new here and would appreciate any advice on raised Cardiolipin ? Blood tests after a TIA five weeks ago show this. I have a follow up appointment with stroke dr next week so want to be prepared for what to ask. I am also floored with tiredness and concentration poor.
Any help and thoughts greatly appreciated
Hi @JanetteG
Welcome:)
Your the first person to mention Cardiolipin is any context here So there’s perhaps a gap in what we can offer from experience.
It is a factor in the operation of bodily systems such as mitochondrial function which are resident goto-person is Roland @pando
How do you know you’ve had a TIA? Have you had an MRI? Not all of the effects of your neurological incidents have yet faded away so “Temporary” would seem at least debatable ?
Concentration and fatigue are major factors for the majority of #StrokeThrivers - If you use a magnifying glass at the top of the page to search for them on the forum you’ll find the community has said a lot about them including effects and strategies to detect triggers & maybe manage them too.
There’s general stuff in

@JanetteG Hi & welcome to the community. Sorry you’ve had cause to join us but hopefully you’ll find lots of useful advice now that you are here.
I have never come across raised cardiolipin so googled it. It can apparently indicate an increased risk of abnormal blood clotting. This would make sense if you’ve had a TIA.
Make sure you write down any questions you have forcthe stroke dr so you don’t forget anything. You might want to ask things atound how they’re going yo treat the raised cardiolipin to prevent another TIA/Stroke. Ask them if they are going to do any furyher tests / investigations to rule out other potential causes. What follow ups you might expect. What, if anything, you can do to lower your risk factors.
In relation to tiredness / fatigue this isn’t unusual after a TIA. I had horrendous fatigue after my TIA. Rest up when you need to & even when you don’t. In time that shoukd improve things. Your concentration could be linked to the fatigue but could also be a consequence of the TIA. That too should improve in time.
Be kind to yourself & patient you’ll get there.
Good luck for your appointment.
Best wishes
Ann
Hi there
Elevated cardiolipin antibodies can lead to an increased risk of blood clot formations in veins or even arteries. Indeed cardiolipin molecules are located in the inner membrane of mitochondria, and stroke survivors invariably have dysfunctional mitochondria to some degree, myself included. Good luck with your recovery,
Roland,
