Can't Cry - Dysphagia

Hi,

This is a bit weird and I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar and has any advice or can shed any light on the problem.

I am having some counselling sessions and during one of them became quite upset and then found I couldn’t swallow, which triggered a panic attack. I had to work hard for several minutes to calm down enough for my swallow to return. It was very scary and left me feeling totally drained.

When I first had my stroke I couldn’t swallow at all for 3 weeks, but it gradually came back and I am mostly ok now, although I still have the occasional day (usually when I am fatigued) when my swallowing feels a little more difficult.

Anyway just thought I would put it out there to the collective.

I wonder if this is a stress related thing that brings back some of your early stroke symptoms. A bit like stroke decompensation which can happen when fatigued too.

It must have been very scary for you at the time.

Hi Anne,

It was, it could be stress as I do find it harder to swallow food if I feel under pressure or stressed whilst eating.
